Book Description

What goes around comes around. That’s justice. Especially in small towns where everybody knows how many eggs you ate for breakfast before you've even left the Scales of Justice Café. Funny thing, though. Usually what everybody thinks they know—they really don’t. Take the folks in Turkey Creek. Oh, everybody knows Maggie Kincaid doesn’t speak to her father. They think they know why. But they don’t. They know Billy Brayton died twenty-five years back. Too bad nobody told him. Because now he’s home. And it’s time to right some past wrongs. Time for justice. Country Justice.

Reviews:

“One of the best books I’ve ever read and I read about 100 or more a year. I loved the characters from the very beginning and was sorry when the story ended. I’m ready for the sequel—hint, hint.” ~ Amazon Reader tvlgds

“I’ve never been to Georgia—and that’s my loss. But Country Justice took me close. Real close. So some inside and meet some new good friends—and some bad ol’ boys. Because there’s a gray Mustang doing lickety-split over the hill. Because a dead man’s coming home—and Turkey Creek doesn’t know what’s about to hit it.” ~ Author Graeme Smith

5.0 out of 5 stars No matter what the name, it's a knock-out book January 20, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Country Justice is the new name (with a new cover) for the previously titled Down Home by Gail Roughton. I don't know the reason behind the new name and cover, but the book is still one of my all time faves and in my top 5. This book seems to have it all - romance, paranormal, mystery, crime solving, thriller, revenge, retribution, retaliation, justice. There are plenty of twists and turns that I never saw coming and kept me riveted to this story. Ms. Roughton is a master at combining different genres within one book to offer something for everybody. I loved the characters in this book and hope, hope, hope, there will be a continuation to their story. I want to be a part of their lives again in a new adventure. I have also read the Dark Series by Ms. Roughton (The Color of Seven and The Color of Dusk) which were also excellent books and also in my top 5. That means that Miss Gail has 3 books in my top 5! So far, everything this author has written than I have read has been a winner!

Below is my original 5-star review of Down Home from 1/13/2013:

I absolutely loved this book. It's a definite keeper and I will read it again. The dialog between characters is just so real, it really doesn't seem like you are reading a book at all, instead it feels like you are an actual part of the conversation. I loved that Billy and Maggie got together right away without the drawn out angst written about most reuniting couples. There's no does he/she love me or not, they just instantly take up where they left off - totally in love with each other without question. The twists and turns really kept me guessing and I was really taken by surprise several times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this Author. Surprising Plot Twists January 18, 2014
By J. Boyd
Format:Kindle Edition
My favorite author, Ms Roughton, has hit another one out of the park. My three favorite books (War N Wit- The Witch, War N Wit- Resurrection and Trianlges) are all written by Ms Roughton. So I had very high expectations for Country Justice. As the other reviewers have stated, this book is about Billy Brayton coming back home to a small town in middle Georgia. He may have a score to settle, but in the end, everyone settles a few scores. I thought I knew where this book was going.... oh it went there and more. I was laughing at how smart she was to pull a few "fast ones" on me. So if you think this is a simple book where the small town boy returns to get the girl.... hold on tight. This is a big girl ride and not for someone who wants a simple easy love story. I would love to brag about a few other sub plots that were exciting but it would definitely be spoiler alerts. I would not have wanted anyone to tell me that info, so I will do the same for you. If you do decide to pass on this book, consider putting it on your wish list and take a look at it again when there are more reviews. I am not a friend of the author but was born and raised in middle GA which was my initial interest in her first book.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of my alltime favorites February 9, 2014
By tvlgds
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read the original version "Down Home" and it was immediately one of my all time favorite books. So much so, that I couldn't wait to read it again under this new title. The characters are very quickly developed and I fell in love with the main players from the very first paragraph. They are the kind of people I try to surround myself with. There's just the right blend of romance (without raunch!), suspense, humor..you name it, this book pretty much has it, including a touch of the supernatural. Gail Roughton truly hits the mark with this wonderful story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great read! August 10, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the second Gail Roughton book I've read, and it certainly won't be the last! I adored my first book by this author (Vanished) and was just the tiniest bit worried that I wouldn't enjoy this one quite as much. To my delight, they are both amazing, entertaining, honest-to-goodness page-turners! Although the two books are very different in setting, I greatly enjoyed them both.

It's fascinating to watch the main character, Billy, come back to his Southern hometown after being away for 25 years, and try to pick up the threads of his past life. It's a good life, but not without a hefty dose of drama and intrigue. Not everything in Rockland County is as it seems on the surface. And the female lead, tough-as-nails Maggie, is very deserving of what she receives. In addition, the supporting characters are fantastic. Ms. Roughton once again makes both people and location come alive. She's even got me thinking with a Southern accent :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Gail Roughton February 20, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have not read anything written by Gail Roughton that has not been top notch. She has such a way with words and the development of her characters beats most writers that I have read (and believe me, I have read lots and lots of writer's books). The story keeps you on edge enough to make the journey through her book most enjoyable. I look forward to more and more by Gail Roughton. Maggie has to be the most strong willed person in the world to continue living the life she chose (surviving and raising a son while her heart aches for one man for over 25 years). You won't regret reading this one, I assure you.
