Happy to find this.,

While this effort is not one of the greatest recordings in my collection, I am very happy I could find anything available of Leroy's period. I have admired his writing and performing ablilities since the early days with The Wheel. Fool on a Stool showcases his nack for writing Honky Tonk country music thats bang on. As you listen to the other cuts I'm sure you will here one or two that Haggard would be very comfortable stepping into. Despite the occasional problem with pitch and a cut or two that could have been left on the shelf this is a CD I look forward to hearing on a fairly regular basis. Noting the 1997 release date I hope it's time for a new Leroy Preston release

This album is not pleasing to the ears. He's off key and the material is poor. It is not even reminiscent of his fantastic writing and performances he did while with Asleep At The Wheel. I wish I knew what happened. Perhaps it is the production. I hope he tries again. Instead of this one, I recommend Asleep At The Wheel's first few albums, several of which are available as two-fer CD's: Texas Gold/Wheelin' & Dealin', Comin' Right at Ya/Texas Gold, and Collison Course/The Wheel. And get their self-titled 1974 Epic album (CD: EK33097 or Vinyl: PE33097), which is their best album of all time. It's out of print. If you can find it used, you can expect to pay about $.
