4.0 out of 5 stars Breathing new life into an old song......
Hermes House Band are an outfit whose speciality just happens to be making dance cover versions from old classic tracks. They've been doing this for several years now, and have been reasonably successful in mainland Europe. 3.0 out of 5 stars Pushing the 'novelty' factor a little too far in my opinion.
Not many people seem to like the Hermes House Band version of the old John Denver classic, "Country Roads", but I think it's a great party track. This version of the CD single, however, sees the 'Band' pushing the novelty factor just a little too far in my opinion. Incredibly, there's SEVEN different remixes to be found on this CD single (it's my belief,...

Hermes House Band are an outfit whose speciality just happens to be making dance cover versions from old classic tracks. They've been doing this for several years now, and have been reasonably successful in mainland Europe. "Country Roads", their take on the old John Denver song, took Europe by storm last summer before finally reaching the UK top 10 last Christmas. And now they've finally reached this side of the Atlantic.

It's unfair to compare this with John Denver's version. While this one is lively and full of fun, the original 70s "Country Roads" (or whenever it was released) was rather dull and depressing. Just bear in mind the Hermes House Band equivalent is meant to be a novelty song and not a straight cover (as some tend to think it is). This CD Single contains three alternative versions: The Original Radio Version, The Original LIVE Extended Version and my own favourite, The Dance Extended Version. Also found on the disc is the CD-ROM enhanced video of the track which I found hilarious!

For serious Hermes House Band addicts (are there any?), ...the IMPORTED CD SINGLE which includes an incredible SEVEN different remixes to the ones found on here.

This version of the CD single, however, sees the 'Band' pushing the novelty factor just a little too far in my opinion. Incredibly, there's SEVEN different remixes to be found on this CD single (it's my belief, however, that at least FIVE of them sound exactly the same!). If you've already bought the original Hermes House Band CD single for this song AND you buy this one too, you'll own TEN different version altogether PLUS the CD-ROM video too! Seems a bit much for a song that wasn't exactly a best seller in the US/UK.

Jon.
