Timeless music if you ask me.This is a great production, with musicans such as Tony Joe White, Dan Penn, Donnie Fritis, Spooner Oldham, George Soule & Bonnie Bramlett. Dan Penn who have produced this have touched the soul with this fantastic production. Every song is amazing!!!!!!!!! If you have any intrest in MUSIC this is a must..............

a remarkable album with "comeback" of the great Larry Jon Wilson,
This review is from: Country Soul Revue: Testifying (Audio CD)
I totally agree with the other reviewers. This is great Country Soul music. Standing out for me is "Chicago Afterwhile", "Drifter" by Tony Joe White is great, the other stuff also, but I have to say that the real highpoint for was that Larry Jon Wilson recorded 2 great songs for the album: "Sapelo" named after one of the Georgia barrier islands, and "Friday Night Fight At Al's", humorously retelling a barroom fight from his youth. From what I know he hadn't released any material since 1979 and it's such a shame that his four great LPs from the seventies aren't available on cd, it they were re-released at all. He was and aparently still is a great songwriter and singer with a great low voice. Hope he records again soon.PS: A Larry Jon Wilson recording session of "Ohoopee River Bottomland" was included in the (road)movie "Heartworn Highways" about the 1975 new country scene, and the song itself in the second volume of Country Got Soul. What a CD. Nothing but down to earth, good, soulful music. From Tony Joe White to Dan Penn and Donnie Fritts this is funky and cool music. Get it and you won't be sorry. I can't quit listening to it.
