5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best CDs of all time, August 5, 2011
This review is from: Old Country Town (Audio CD)
I don't understand why this CD isn't talked about very much. To me although I loved the "Carrying The Tradition" CD and think it's one of the best CDs in bluegrass, THIS CD, "Old Country Town" was even better. This was the Lonesome River Band at its very best. Forget the later incarnations of the band. THIS was when they were at the very top of their game. Tim Austin, Dan Tyminski, Ronnie Bowman, and Sammy Shelor. What an incredible band. This CD doesn't have a bad song on it. From the very opening notes of "Highway Paved With Pain," it will blow you away. This was to be the last CD with the remaining original member, Tim Austin. Talk about a rhythm guitar player! There's no one that can drive and absolutely blow you away with such a powerful rhythm guitar as Tim Austin. And he's a great lead guitar player too, although he seemed to choose not to do as much of that. To me, the Lonesome River Band has never been the same since Tim Austin left. He was that all important ingredient in their driving sound. The songs to name a few on this CD- "Who Needs You," "The Game I Can't Win," "I'll Take The Blame," "Old Lonesome Welcome Back," and many more. If you don't have this CD, and you call yourself a fan of the Lonesome River Band, you NEED it. You will not be disappointed!
