This is THE book for country furniture lovers,
This review is from: Country Pine: Furniture You Can Make With the Table Saw and Router (Hardcover)
The book details about 30 projects, some of which are simple enough for beginners to get to learn their tools (hanging display shelf, candle shelf) and some others are more complex and will definitely need more than one week-end to build(corner cupboard, narrow Amish cabinet, dry sink). At the beginning of each section, you get a picture of the original antique from which the plans were "extracted" and some of its history. You then get detailed instructions for building the replica. The book also includes terrific "ShopSmarts" tips such as resawing techniques, raised panel techniques and antique finishing methods. I'd only wish there was another book (part 2?) with some more projects.

This review is from: Country Pine: Furniture You Can Make With the Table Saw and Router (Hardcover)
This is a good book for the experienced woodworker with lots of tools. Though some projects are simple enough for the beginner, most have lots of pieces and require the mentioned router and table saw, but also a planer for edge planing and thickness planing of stock and many others. Some joints are complicated, though the author says they are easy once you start - he makes light of some complicated procedures that, in practice, take careful alignment.I like his explanation of the pieces and, as a senior citizen and a life-long hobby woodworker, found some new tricks I plan to use on other pieces. The drawings are clear and well placed. It is a good reference book for those of us who like pine furniture from a by-gone era with a helpful and up-beat tone. Looking through the plans, there are several I want to make. |
