About the Author

Howard S. Rosenzweig is a Ph.D. organic chemist. He has been involved in research for many years, in both academia and industry. He has been innovative, as evidenced by the patent awarded to him for part of his Ph.D. work [for synthesis of cyclic, cis-vicinal tertiary diamines] as well as the more recent inventions of his method for purification of Tc-99m-labeled monoclonal antibodies, conceiving and developing a new class of synthetic transfection reagent as well as a patent for novel materials for contact lenses. However, his interests are far wider than science, for he also composes songs [both music and lyrics] ranging from blues, latin jazz and love ballads. He is currently an adjunct faculty member at Oakton Community College. He is happily married to Maria Papadopoulou, who is an internationally recognized Ph.D. organic chemist, as well as a very talented artist and poet. They live happily as well with their son Vasilios in Skokie, Illinois.

this book was recently suggested to me as a short, but very entertaining read; and it accomplished just that.

The opening immediately grasped my attention, moving frequently backwards and forwards in time, with fast-paced movement that set the scene for this short novel... at first i was a bit perplexed by the purpose of this time shift; it did not seem to have any real significance, but as the story line develops the author relies less on time change and more on dialogue between characters; it is through the dialogue that i was able to decipher the direction this story was taking.

Although at first, i anticipated a typical war story read, especially those of the modern "vengeful" type, for example, specifically those set during WWII where eventually the Jewish main character will get his revenge on the SS, HOWEVER....i could not have predicted the ending i inevitably read.

This book proved to be a very fun, quick read, although somewhat gruesome, maybe even too graphic at times. I would describe it as a mix of (accurate) history--especially post-WWII--with a modern pop culture fiction twist (especially in film and tv).

Someone should pick this up for a potential film. I can see this winning a few awards at the Cannes Festival.

I haven't read violent thrillers for many years. I didn't think I could ever again. I did though read Dr. Howard Rosenzweig's, A COUP' OF SORTS. I was drawn to it by his treatment of language, the many details packed in the frugality of words, the unexpected adventures and travels in time through three continents, the suspense. The descriptions of the early violent parts come to an end fast. By the time something begins to take place, it is almost over. I read those parts the same way I watched Kevin Costner's, The Passion of Christ, a few years back: with half closed eyes. Yet, I lost nothing important of the context, only what I couldn't stomach. The emphasis is on the narrative, not in the thrill of violence. Any violence present is not there for the sake of sensationalism. It is the means to an end, whether that is for the survival of a person, a country, a culture or a tribe continually balanced by the romantic love between Cohen and his wife. As for the unnatural, I have read a great deal about shape shifting; not only I do not mind it but find it fascinating. Dr. Howard Rosenzweig has great imagination and an articulate writing style. I can see this story becoming a movie, full of thrill and excitement. I wish that for Author and his story.

Howard's stylish writing puts us in a time machine traveling back and forth through 6 centuries, from 1385 to 1979 in Europe, South America, and Asia. ₣rom the safety of the inside of our time machine we see snapshots of ghettos, Vietcong mansions, Mayan temples, and treetop or rooftop snipers. We look out and down from the window on human ignorance, violence (c.f. quote from 'The Villain': "Violence Is Ignorance!"), hate, and revenge as our emotions get stirred in a sinusoidal fashion, reminding us that history is filled with accounts of various acts of hate and genocide and stories of the tyrants who committed them. The love story in the middle, however, restores our hope and trust in humanity. The songs of Les, and the poetry of Ariana, are sweet and refreshing.

Excellent read.

This book will please those that find contemporary literature too full of hackneyed phraseology, repetitive themes and shallow characters. Often the best best seller literature to be found on lists is modeled after or plainly plagiarizes the style of past literary greats, and copies are never as satisfying as the original.

A Coup' of Sorts is different - fresh and captivating, written with an unusual free hand that will keep enthralled those that read a lot and are easily disinterested. I rarely read a book in one setting but this one was compelling .

A Coup' of Sorts could be the basis of an exceptional movie.

The brevity of the novella as a literary expression in many ways makes it more difficult to achieve the goals of pacing, character development, and suspense than the greater length of the novel. Kudos to Howard Rosenzweig for so adroitly achieving a unique blend of political thriller with strong elements of supernatural horror. This skillful mix of genres creates delighful dividends for the reader. Brad and Sherry Steiger, authors of Real Encounters, Different Dimensions, and Otherworldly Beings.

I started the book and could not put it down till I finhished it. Start to finish was a very satisfying experience. The book is short, a novella, as the author calls it. The scenes move with great speed and take us across the oceans. Kept my interest till the end. Natural and supernatural are wonderfully mixed to produce an entertaining thriller. Wonderful introduction to the talents of Dr. Howard Rosenzweig.

This novella written by Dr. Rosenszweig is an action packed adventure that takes you back and forth through time on a mission. The character's are exciting and kept me turning the pages to find out what would happen next. The research of history through Mayan culture, WW II Warsaw Ghetto, Vietnam was riveting! The adventure hero Les Cohen also satisfies the romantic reader as well with his love story for his wife. It was a terrific blend of romance and adventure with a surprise ending. I look forward to more adventures with Les Cohen! Well done!
