Theatrical Couperin, October 30, 2007

This is some of the best of Couperin's instrumental and vocal music. And that would be some of the best of French Baroque. As theatrical music it ranks just below the best of Lully and Rameau. The performances are wonderfully humorous and whimsical. There is no great tragic music here, but some wistful and sad moments break through at times. This recording is highly recommended.
