Book Description

July 1, 2008

A book and online profile that identifies a couple's strengths to help them build a more vital relationship.

Based on an unprecedented national survey of 50,000 marriages, The Couple Checkup presents the principles for creating a successful couple relationship. The free online profile includes fifteen to twenty categories that are customized based on the relationship stage-whether dating, engaged, or married-the age, and whether or not children are involved. The book also includes the SCOPE Personality Profile and the Couple and Family Map of the relationship.

Each chapter of the book matches a category in the free individual profile. While the book stands on its own, using the Couple Checkup with the book provides the maximum benefit. In addition, each chapter contains couple exercises to help build couple strengths in a variety of areas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do yourself a favor., July 29, 2008
This review is from: The Couple Checkup: Find Your Relationship Strengths (Hardcover)
There are lots of opinions about how to improve a relationship (dating, engaged, or married). But this one has solid science to back-up it's advice. Want to know how to really have a better relationship? Do yourself a favor and read this book. I've been a marriage educator and therapist for over 15 years and have followed the research behind this book--it cannot be surpassed. The advice is proven and practical. More than that, you get an online survey of your own relationship (an "x-ray") that allows you to build on your strengths (isn't it nice to know what's going well!) and identify what could be improved. This is true-to-life couple enrichment. This book may put me out of business.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, fun read, really cool online relationship profile included, July 25, 2008
This review is from: The Couple Checkup: Find Your Relationship Strengths (Hardcover)
Nice feature - this book includes an online profile I used to get a Checkup on my relationship, with the option for my wife to complete it as well. It's the first thing I did after getting the book.

After getting my Checkup profile, this book unpacked the areas I'm doing well in - and also where I need to improve. It's a very enjoyable book to read and page through. The advice is practical, down-to-earth, and can really make a difference in my marriage.

The coolest feature is the online Couple Checkup, which alone is worth the price of this book. This is definitely a must read for everyone looking to find or build on their relationship's strengths.

If you like a cranial way to view a heart issue, this process is for you. Combined with data and research, the authors give a practical guide to the heart. Conversely, the book is filled with a heart approach to help you start from the heart to go deeper with your heart. A great combination for both introverts and extroverts, and thinkers and feelers, to work together to build a stronger and lasting relationship. HIGHLY recommend this book for both healing and growing.
