5.0 out of 5 stars PERFECT "BEGINNERS' BIBLE" FOR NEWCOMERS TO INFERTILITY
A person who is just getting his feet wet in the frightening and confusing world of infertility, obviously finds himself overwhelmed. The medical jargon today, all those acronym -- GIFT, ZIFT, IUI, PCT, BBT, LH, FSH, HCG, HSG, IVF, not to mention PROST, TOAST, SUZI, FREDI, etc. can just make your mind spin. There are many difficult moral decisions to make as well. Dr...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not one of the better, detailed or updated books available.
Stated that book was revised. However this book was revised over 3 years ago and contains much material that I know is outdated. Examples: Dr listing in the back is inaccurate -- several doctors are no longer at stated clinics and had left clinics around 1995. Some of the procedures discussed are no longer the norm -- newer methods have replaced them.

5.0 out of 5 stars PERFECT "BEGINNERS' BIBLE" FOR NEWCOMERS TO INFERTILITY, January 6, 1999

Dr. Goldstien's book is a perfect "beginners' bible" to infertility. It explains every facet of the experience in great detail, and patients become better medical consumers as a result. In addition, Dr. Goldstien is the #1 recommended urologist in New York City, and is widely used by the Jewish community in N.Y. He is very knowledgeable and sensitive to the needs of the Jewish community and the restrictions they have concerning male infertility. Recommended reading for everyone -- whether you want to seek help, you are in the thick of being helped, or are almost beyond help..... Lots of luck to all who are struggling with this excruciatingly difficult life's experience!

5.0 out of 5 stars the most comprehensive book on infertility we read, August 8, 1998
By A Customer
This is by far the most comprehensive book we read while going through treatment. The authors write with confidence, knowledge, and compassion. After reading this book, we chose to team up with Dr. Gary Berger for treatment. He is as thorough, and professional as he seems to be in the book. We are impressed that he will search the net for information, call the pharmeceutical companies with questions, genuinely regard all data as important in planning a treatment protocol for you. He is very knowledgeable and will not treat you as one on an assembly line. Fine doctors do still exist! A fine book to help you learn to get the evaluation and treatment that could help you. Don't give up before reading this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best most informative book on infertility!, July 16, 1998
By A Customer
Being on the infertility roalercoaster, we tend to search as much as we can to find some useful information.

"The Couples Guide to Fertility" is the best I've come across, and I've read a lot!

I personally know Dr Goldstien, he is a wonderful person and an excellent reputable Dr. When you read this book, you realize that it contians MEDICAL information, no nonesense..... These authors UNDERSTAND "ALL" aspects of infertility, and have a special sensitivity to infertility patients.

NO OTHER BOOK THAT I COULD FIND, EXPLAINS MALE INFERTILITY AS MUCH AS THIS BOOK, AND YET FEMALE FACTORS ARE DISCUSSED MORE THAN IN MOST BOOKS.

You will sure feel more comfortable, and more confident to continue your struggle after you finish this excellent book. It will not be wasted money!

Good Luck to all infertility patients!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wealth of information for couples seeking fertility info., December 8, 1997
By A Customer
This book is for anyone who is looking for answers to some of their infertility questions. Easy to read and understand without all the medical jargon that has you asking "what did he say?" An entire index in the back of the book, has a listing of reproductive health organizations across the United States, as well as phone numbers, doctors names, what each doctors field of expertise is. The book discuss's all of the latest fertility treatments and options as well as medications and provides insight to each. I especially enjoyed the mini-stories from other couples and what course of treatment they choose and wether it was successful for them, how long they had been undergoing fertility treatments, and the mental anguish many endured. I thought this brought some personalization to the book, and reminded me that we are not alone in our quest for a family. Overall, I thought the book was well written, and wonderfully executed, it provided a great deal of information on all aspects of infertility, both in the male and female.

5.0 out of 5 stars You must have this book!, December 3, 2001
By A Customer
This book saved my sanity. It gave me the education I needed to take charge of my own fertility. It explained things that the doctors didn't. It was a source of reference to back up what they did say. Most of all it gave me the confidence to walk away from Doctors that didn't specialize in my needs and to find someone that did. AND every room in my Doctors office had a copy of this book! - Get it - It's worth every cent.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read, June 24, 2007
By
Prof Leenie (Huntington Beach, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Couple's Guide to Fertility, Third Edition: Entirely Revised and Updated with the Newest Scientific Techniques to Help You Have a Baby (Paperback)
A friend who struggled with fertility recommended "The Couple's Guide to Fertility" to be extremely helpful and informative-- especially at the very start of infertility treatment. The information is very well explained, and I love that the authors provide charts of what your levels should be and teach you how to understand what your results mean. It isn't too clinical, as many infertility books are, but still provides a wealth of information. It also gives good advice about selecting a doctor and provides hope for the future.

On the negative, the last edition was published in 2001, so some of the information (especially the listing of doctors in the back) is outdated, but overall, this is a very good starting point for couples facicng infertility.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this book, August 21, 2007
This review is from: The Couple's Guide to Fertility, Third Edition: Entirely Revised and Updated with the Newest Scientific Techniques to Help You Have a Baby (Paperback)
The information in this book is completely outdated and large portions of the book are dedicated to proceedures that are no longer performed! Buy "What to Do When You Can't Get Pregnant" instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every infertile patient should read!!!, November 22, 1997
By A Customer
Infertiltiy in itself is very confusing, Peggy Robin has simplified it for us. I love her patient excerpts! They thought all the same ways I do. I loved her ways to deal with stress during that 2 week wait. I found this such an informative, easy read and use it now as a reference book when Im considering a new procedure. This is a must read!

5.0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive, valuable, "reader friendly" guide, November 11, 2001
This review is from: The Couple's Guide to Fertility, Third Edition: Entirely Revised and Updated with the Newest Scientific Techniques to Help You Have a Baby (Paperback)
Now in its third edition, The Couple's Guide To Fertility has been completely revised and updated to represent the latest scientific findings to help infertile couples become parents. Research on genetics, fertility drugs, and the latest minimally invasive surgeries to correct infertility problems are all discussed in great depth, but with attention to lay audiences. A comprehensive, valuable, "reader friendly" guide.
