Couplets CD -an excellant example of spoken word at its best, February 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Couplets (Audio CD)
I bought this CD because I am a fan of Victoria Wyndham and Charles Keating (Rachel and Carl of the NBC Daytime Soap "Another World". I wasn't really sure if it would be any more than an addition to my CD library - not frequently listened too. When it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised not only by the quality, but the range of listeners I think this would appeal to. (myself included) Selections range from children's stories and rhymes to Shakespeare to e.e. cummings. I've since bought copies for friends and relatives and multiple copies personally so I can have one in my car, home and office. I seriously recommend this to anyone looking for quality readings and enjoyment of the spoken word. Carolyn Williams END

Not just for Another World Fans!, October 31, 2009
This review is from: Couplets (Audio CD)
Even though it's been 10 years, I still miss Another World which ran from 1965 until 1999. Victoria Wyndham had played Rachel Cory since the early 1970s as an artistic personality with her own unique beauty. When she paired up with the evil Carl Hutchings played by the delightful and fun Charles Keating, it was a pair made in soap heaven. They became close friends off-screen as well as on-screen. This compact disc is a collection of their audio recordings to classic literature ranging from Shakespeare to Rumi. They also include couplets by May Swenson, Eda St. Vincent Millay, Christina Georgina Rosetti, Frederico Garcia Lorca, Frances Cornford, Annabel Laurina, Oscar Wilde, Eleni Vakalo, Anacreon, e.e. cummings, Elizabeth I, Jules Feiffer, Dorothy Parker, John Ford, Liu Young, Izumi Shikibu, Sei Shonagon, Zenodotus, Robert Browning, Dylan Thomas, Emily Dickinson, Barbara Fried, Phillip Whalen, Stoddard King, and Peter Barnes among the list. This widely varied recordings is quite enchanting. They speak with such passion and dedication to express the writers' sentiments. The writers mentioned here would have been proud to see their words come alive and dance for it's listeners. Sometimes playful, sometimes serious, sometimes just reminds me of my loss. Keating and Wyndham's professional partnership could be on par with other successful thespians like Ian McKellan/Judi Dench and others. They are that talented. Keating and Wyndham are seasoned professional actors who know how to deliver. You would not be disappointed with their performance which will make you ask why we don't have them on as much anymore. To me, the older the better.
