Book Description

November 1, 2000 ICA series
The complexity of our world can paralyze even the most committed individuals in their efforts to bring about social change. But being an agent of change does not mean we have to start a revolution-it can be done in small ways, wherever and whenever.

The Courage to Lead provides a matrix for examining one's relationship to life, self, the world, and society in order to become effective leaders. Filled with amusing and moving anecdotes, this empowering work will appeal to all seeking a better understanding of social change pioneering.

R. Brian Stanfield is the Director of Research at The Canadian Institute of Cultural Affairs and the author of The Art of Focused Conversation (New Society Publishers). He lives in Toronto, Ontario.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enhanced throughout with funny, inspiring anecdotes, April 4, 2001
This review is from: Courage to Lead (ICA series) (Paperback)
Brian Stanfield challenges his readers in The Courage To Lead: Transform Self, Transform Society. He advocates that men and women take charge of their own internal quest for meaning in life and to move without paralysis by acting powerfully wherever they are. Stanfield asserts that "leadership" begins wherever we are, at home, at work, at a community meeting, or a simple conversation anytime, anywhere, with anyone. The key to changing society is to begin by changing oneself. Very ably written and as practical as it is inspirational, The Courage To Lead is enhanced throughout with funny, inspiring anecdotes and is very highly recommended reading for anyone seeking a better understanding of the mechanics and processes of effective self-induced, grassroots, social change pioneering.
