5.0 out of 5 stars Must read for women in business, April 11, 2002

This review is from: On Course for Business: Women and Golf (Paperback)
Last week I finished reading On Course for Business, just in time. This week I had a golf game with a new client and my management. As a very novice golfer, I was nervous, but the book showed me it isn't about golf swings. By knowing the etiquette rules - very important in golf - I was confident on the course. More importantly, the book taught me how to observe the behavior of my golfing partners and judge how they will behave in business. It definitely works. I was surprised at how much I was able to learn about my company's new client, both professionally and personally. I also made stronger connections with my management, which I know will help around review time. The book is well written, with a sense of humor and understanding of business issues women face. It's easy to take the information and apply it immediately. If you want to set yourself apart, and confidently work and play with the big boys, read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE Business Development Guide for Women, May 29, 2002
By
This review is from: On Course for Business: Women and Golf (Paperback)
What an amazing book! Women have been left out, or behind, far too long in busines, in large part because they don't realize or appreciate how important golf is in American business. This book provides practical, understandable information on etiquette, playing rules, and business savvy. It's THE guide for women who want more confidence on the course, and who want to use golf to find, build and strengthen important business relationships. Thank you, Ms. Woo, for this much needed, beautifully written book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Play or stay, April 11, 2002

This review is from: On Course for Business: Women and Golf (Paperback)
As a woman in management, I attend many conferences and seminars each year. In 90% of the events I attend, there is always at least one day set aside for the game of golf. Well, I never played golf before. Therefore, typically, I would sit around waiting for my friends to return from the game.

After a while, I discovered that there were numerous discussions held during the game. Valuable tips and industry insights were exchanged while playing golf, and I was totally left out of the loop. I wanted to learn to play golf but felt intimidated by the game. After reading this book, I gained lots of invaluable information, and actually found the courage to take up golfing. The next time I attend a conference, I will be right out there with my colleagues "talking shop" on course.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for all Women golfers - especially new golfers, March 29, 2002

Although I am an experienced golfer and not in a profession that I golf for business, I found the book to be great! It is easy to read, and hits home in many places. Reading parts of the book brought back memories of how I felt the first time I golfed with strangers! The information in the book will help add confidence and self esteem. There are so many ways that golf correlates to the person and who they are, why they tick. I never thought how useful this game could be in handling work situations until I read Suzanne's book. Not a heavy duty book, it is light reading and yet, is worth the time to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Handbook for Businesswomen, February 20, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: On Course for Business: Women and Golf (Paperback)
If you're like me, doing business in a "man's world" is challenging enough, but have you ever been invited to spend a day with the "boys" on the course...talk about intimidating. But not anymore! While this book does not teach you how to play golf, it does give you the confidence to hold your own while your on the course -- which can also translate into the boardroom or any other arena we might consider intimidating. This is a must read for all women climbing the corporate ladder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great kickstart to business relationships!!, May 8, 2002

This review is from: On Course for Business: Women and Golf (Paperback)
As a businesswomen and relatively new golfer I found Suzanne's book, On Course for Business, to be an excellent primer on the do's and don'ts for using golf in a business environment. Now,
I'll be more encouraged to invite clients and prospects out for some quality on course time as a way to create and build relationships. I'm looking forward for the good summer weather so I can put what the book taught me into practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Read!, April 17, 2002

I bought Suzanne's book about two weeks ago because I've just started a new business and realized that I'm missing out on networking opportunities by not being on the golf course. What a fantastic and inspirational read! Her sense of humor combined with her specific examples of women who've had the guts to get out there and play (regardless of their score) has motivated me to get out there and join them! Last night, I had the privilege of hearing Suzanne speak at a SF Chamber of Commerce Event. Her presentation, like her book, is filled with easy to follow tips and techniques for playing the game of "business golf." I would recommend her book and seminars to anyone interested in learning the ins and outs of this all-important networking tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book, March 18, 2009
This review is from: On Course for Business: Women and Golf (Paperback)
I picked up this book "by accident." However, after reading it I have purchased many copies as gifts. I am a girls high school golf coach and have used this book to help recruit young girls to the game. This book helps me "sell" the idea to girls in a community who would otherwise NEVER even consider it.

I tell young ladies, if you want to get a leg up, a foot in the door.... or whatever body part you want to use to get into a man's world, well you must be on the golf course, and this book will show you how. When was the last time you saw a business deal being orchestrated on a basketball court, or soccer field.. NEVER... but it takes place every day on a golf course. While 50% of the population is women, 75% of the golfers are men. You do the math. This book is a must!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Just For Women Only, March 29, 2005
By
This review is from: On Course for Business: Women and Golf (Paperback)
I am new to the financial industry and quickly discovered that golf is a common method of doing business. A colleague of mine heard me discussing this and suggested that I read this book as a prelude to my golfing with clients. I took the advice. Much of the book is directed towards women who are new to the game. However it is applicable to anyone interested in playing golf in a business setting. In fact there is a chapter devoted to men golfing with women decision makers. It includes specific suggestions on how to make a novice woman golfer feel comfortable. Again, though relating to women, most of the suggestions apply to both men and women. I remember when I started golfing, though not in a business setting there was still that uncomfortable feeling one can get in an unfamiliar environment. I would have found this book a confidence builder then as much as I do now as my golfing takes on a business orientation. I highly recommend this book to both men and women who intend to start using golf as a business asset.
