Don't let the title fool you if you are taking the GRE you are not going to study at the last minute, but this crash course is much needed. With that said this book was a pleasant surprise. The concepts are straight forward and detailed. I have gotten other books, and this book has taught me more than them combined. There are no long explanations just to the point tips and tricks on solving everything on the new GRE. This is a great book to pick up if you are not sure what you need to focus on in your study. You are able to see your strengths and weaknesses then focus your attention on building what you don't know. Not only is the book impressive but the price is as well; it is highly recommended.

Definitely would not recommend. In summary, the book offers nothing new and the errors in the book make it not even worth the low price.

The strategies they suggest in this book are the same as suggested in any book, but condensed: use time wisely, read only as much as you must, use your scratch paper, eliminate wrong answers rather than looking for right ones, skip questions you are spending too much time on and come back later, use your scratch paper (yes, I've already said it, but people tend to skip this).

Some of the reminders they give you about math are very, very helpful; in particular, the tips, tricks, and strategies relating to square roots and Pythagorean Triples about right triangles are not only shortcuts, but for some geometry problems, they are required knowledge. If you've forgotten about 30-60-90 triangles and isosceles right triangles, you may not be able to solve some area problems, so for those of us who, like myself, have never been good at geometric and spatial reasoning, these tips are score-savers.

However, I do have some issues with their other strategies.

For the reading comp, they suggest never reading a whole passage. Well, that's not surprising, we were taught this for reading-heavy seminars in college where we were scheduled to discuss the reading, anyway, and when you have 500 pages to read in a week you can't get bogged down in unnecessary details, only main ideas.

Unfortunately, their method seemed to backfire. While you don't read the whole passage on the first run-through by their method, you end up going back and fishing for the answer for the many specific questions - ESPECIALLY in the case of "all of the following are true EXCEPT.

You can't buy a better GRE Prep Book. The testing strategies and concepts in here are the same as every large $35-$55 book. You buy this, the Princeton vocab book and the 1014 practice questions and get more material for the same price as the huge lumps of text.

I was disgusted by the number of errors I found in this book. In general I have not been impressed with anything related to the Princeton review. Do not waste your time with their products.

HUGE WARNING FOR THOSE TAKING THE NEW GRE. The only review book you should really purchase is the Official Guide. Since it is a new test, Princeton Review actually has no idea what the new questions are like.

Buy the official guide and review the materials from the website. Only the test creators, ETS, really know what the new questions are going to be like.

I would know since I recently took the new GRE, and have found the Official Guide be have the most accurate preparation for the math section.

Wow, was this book ever a waste of money!! While the book did provide a few useful tips for the GRE, I am absolutely appalled by the number of errors within it. There are a few typos here and there, but what really got me was that some of the calculations in the book were completely wrong! Here are a couple of examples:

In an example "quant comp" problem on page 78, you are told very early on to cross out the answer C, as it is not a possible answer. The problem then goes on to conclude that C is the answer. What?

The answer (page 183) provided by the book for the fifth problem in "Math Drill #2" is incorrect. The book states that the answer is C ("The two quantities are the same."), but the writer also clearly states that Quantity A is equal to one third, while Quantity B is given as one and one third. One third is NOT equal to one and one third, and not even Princeton will manage to convince me otherwise.

There are other errors in the calculations within the book, but I cannot continue to delve into the specifics without becoming irate.

If you want to feel tricked and cheated, go ahead and buy this book. If you want a quality review guide, look elsewhere.

Aside from some typos and minor mistakes, this book was helpful in training basic skills for taking the new GRE. The book emphasizes on efficient testing (using scratch paper, skip hard questions and come back etc.) Overall a good book if typos are fixed.

Book arrived in timely manner.

3/14: I already worked on the larger version of The Princeton Review of the GRE. So, the mini version, Crash Course for the New GRE, was the very definition of a dumbed down material. It was a waste of my time.
