Not a bad book for a beginner,

Not bad for a beginner book to learn Microsoft SQL Server 2000 T-SQL database language. You will learn how to create DML statements UPDATE, DELETE, and INSERT and DDL statements CREATE, TRUNCATE, and DROP. The book will show you how to create FOR, AFTER, INSTEAD OF Triggers on INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE. You will learn how to create FUNCTIONs and PROCEDUREs. The book walks you through a couple examples and then asks you to create something based on what you have learned. The book does not cover the entire T-SQL language this book is more suited for a beginner. Comes with a CD covering all the examples, but I highly recommend you type everything by hand until you become a professional at writing T-SQL.
I recommend the following books in addition or instead of Course ILT: Exam 70-228 MCSE SQL Server 2000 Implementation you will find these books to cover a surpass amount of material to bring you up to speed or to learn the entire SQL Server database from Coding as Developer to Administrating as a DBA Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Unleashed Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Unleashed (2nd Edition)
