Book Description

Kessinger Publishing's Rare Reprints June 5, 2003
This work presents the Universal System of shorthand. Each principle is simply stated and profusely illustrated. When such explanation is desirable, the cautions to be observed in the use of that principle are explained. Exercises are introduced in each lesson at every point that requires application drill. These exercises consist of word lists, groups of sentences and brief business letters, all of which, in their construction, indicate a radical departure from the usual exercise matter, for special attention has been centered on the acquisition of a varied vocabulary, the development of ease in note-taking ability, and on the proper provision for a cumulative review of the theory.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Refresher, July 12, 2010

This review is from: Course in Isaac Pitman Shorthand (Paperback)
After having learned and used Pitman shorthand since the 1950's, it was great to be able to see if I am still making the strokes correctly. I'm going to enjoy going through the exercises and possibly learning something new.
Having been able to secure this course book from 1924 through Amazon has been a great surprise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Course in Isaac Pitman Shorthand - Kessinger Publishing, December 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Course in Isaac Pitman Shorthand (Paperback)
I purchased this lovely book, new. Originally published in 1924, it is set out as a simple to follow, very well explained and encouraging book,in large print, with lots of work exercises and examples and reading matter in shorthand. The preface, foreword and introduction alone are not over long and most encouraging, and well written. This book has a lost quality of books of the time, whereby the writer of the book sought to engage directly with the reader. No wonder books were so special to people at that time. Love it! If you buy this book, I am sure you will not hesitate to work through it. The same publishers have listed a huge variety of subjects of other books that they publish, on the back cover - anything from Yoga to Theology, Self-Help books to Architecture.
