ANOTHER SIDE, September 23, 2001
This review is from: Court Martial of Jackie Robinson [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Most of us know Jackie Robinson as the one who broke the racial barrier in Major League Baseball. Very few of us know about this other side of Jackie Robinson's life that occured prior to his becoming a Brooklyn Dodger. Enter into the world of a young Jackie Robinson whose life and career hangs in a precarious balance.
The Court Martial of Jackie Robinson is the dramatization of an actual event that occurred in Robinson's life while serving as a Lieutenant at Camp Hood, Texas during the 1944-45 time frame. Here we have a promising young Black officer whose career is about to come to a close. The charge? Refusal to obey a lawful order. Is this true?
Follow closely the events leading up to this delimma of Robinson's. You will find a young man who has dreams and hopes of his own that he wants to see emerge. Jackie is hot tempered and in his day was considered radical in taking a stand. This is the side of Robinson that isn't well known. Seeing how he copes with the challenges put before him and emerges into a champion athlete is a delight within itself. You will enjoy this intriguing drama of a young man unwilling to bend.
