5.0 out of 5 stars One of My Favorite Shows!, July 16, 2005
This review is from: Court TV - Forensic Files (DVD)
I watch Forensic Files every week on the Court Channel, and it's one of my favorite "forensic/crime" shows. It's great because it allows you to see not only how the crime was committed, but the process that law enforcement had to go through to solve the crime.

I love these shows because somehow it makes me feel safer just knowing that every crime can be solved - plus, I'm also extremely interested in forensic science, as well as what drives people to commit such horrible crimes against others.

"Forensic Files" is great because you're never left hanging - you know going into it that the "bad guy" will be caught. This makes it easier to endure some of the "stomach-churning" details of the crimes themselves.

If you're a crime buff, and enjoy learning about how murders are solved, then this would be a great DVD for you.

If you're a fan of shows like "Investigative Reports (any of the Bill Curtis shows, really), "Body of Evidence", "Cold Case Files" and "City Confidential", I'm sure you'll enjoy "Forensic Files". This is a no-nonsense look at the world of forensic science and the dedicated individuals who use it to solve crimes. I hope all you crime buffs enjoy it as much as I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Too Expensive, April 28, 2008
This review is from: Court TV - Forensic Files (DVD)
Forensic Files is without a doubt my favorite program. I purchased this same DVD about 2 years ago for less than $50 on Amazon. I don't understand why its so expensive now. Most of the episodes on the DVD have been re-ran over 100's of times. Don't get me wrong, every episode is excellent, but not worth over 100 bucks.

Forensic Files is a great show and I enjoyed the episodes they included here. I have two minor quibbles though. The first is that there are only 12 episodes on a 2-disc set, less than 5 hours of material. I'm not sure how many episodes they make in a season, but I suspect that it's more than 12. The second quibble is the DVD extras are pretty skimpy. The interactive forensics lab is basically a slide show and some guy talking who I'm not quite sure what his expertise is. This feature could have been done much more entertainingly, like the show itself is. The forensics quiz was interesting, but again, basically a slide show. But at least this DVD set has the shows themselves, which are definitely interesting and fun to watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars So worth it!!, May 18, 2008
This review is from: Court TV - Forensic Files (DVD)
I am a huge FF fan and have been searching for this DVD for some time. I finally came across one, and once I recieved it, I watched it over and over. The only bad thing I can say is due to the fact this is my favorite show and watch it all the time already, I had already seen all but a few of the episodes on it. But I watched them again anyways! Very very worth it! I would highly recommend this!

I spent a little over 3 hours watching this 2 pack DVD set with my husband. It was fascinating. The story "Breaking the mold" is riveting, and made me and my family very thankful that there is not that problem in our house.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Introduction to Fascinating Applications of Science to Law, March 29, 2009

I've seen a few different tv documentaries that cover forensic cases, and this series is one of the best. This collection is especially nice becuase they purposefully picked a wide range of cases. I was a bit bored by one case or two, but mostly, their selection was wonderful.

Notes: often cases involve more than one area of forensics, I'm just picking out the main one I saw in each.

Disc 1 features cases involving a bombing (chemical analysis), anthropology, crash reconstruction, viral DNA, document examination, bite mark analysis

Disc 2 features chemical analysis of paint chips; gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy; microscopy; DNA, Document Examination; Ballistics/ Soil analysis
