5.0 out of 5 stars Basie drive from the opening note to the last lick.
Shorty and his big band pay tribute to "The Count" with nine Basie tunes and three of Shorty's. Even the Roger originals have the Basie patterns of piano chords, walking bass, crisp sax and brass riffs, and explosive dynamics. The band personnel reads like "Who's who of Big Band Jazz", and the clarinet solos of Jimmy Giuffre are worth the...

1.0 out of 5 stars Counterfeit?
This music is great big band jazz, an all-star band with a great roster of '50's West Coast jazz monster musicians. But the sound of the product I bought (Amazon) was terrible. It has all the earmarks of a counterfeit copy of the original, sloppily reproduced. I note that it has been pulled from Amazon by the manufacturer...good riddance. In the meantime I fear that the...

The band personnel reads like "Who's who of Big Band Jazz", and the clarinet solos of Jimmy Giuffre are worth the price of the CD alone. If you like Basie or Shorty, here is a treat you don't want to miss.

5.0 out of 5 stars great recording quality, July 27, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Regarding the quality of the BMG release......it is incredible, and it is miked beautifully!! All section work as well as soloists are...CLEAR!!! It was pulled by the manufacturer because it SOLD OUT !!Today, it can only be purchased as an import rom Amazon.co.jp for double or triple the cost. Well worth the money for Shorty fans.

It has all the earmarks of a counterfeit copy of the original, sloppily reproduced. I note that it has been pulled from Amazon by the manufacturer...good riddance. In the meantime I fear that the market may be flooded with this product. Now I'm afraid to order another. So be warned. Something rotten got hold of Shorty's record and you may buy a poor repro of the original.
