This review is from: Cousin Phillis (Paperback)
I felt it could have been more developed. I would have liked to have seen this as a novel instead of a small novella or a large short story.
The theme of her story was there-that in general, women love longer and are more loyal, whereas men tend to be more fickle, as a passage of time tends to cause them to forget. I understood that, but I felt this could have been more developed. I was also left, wanting to know more of what happened to the heroine. It is a good read, but I believe most would feel more satisfied if they bought this little novella/short story in a book that had a collection of Mrs. Gaskell's short stories in which this was one of several. |
