One of the best in the genre,

Everybody says it, they are right. Bury Your Dead leads tough guy hardcore. Sure its nothing new but they do it well. The lyrics are above average, the drums impressed me. The breakdowns obviously own(overal the guitar playing was good because it didn't make me feel like I was listening to the same riff through the whole cd). The vocals are definetly in the spirt of Throwdown Terror and Hatebreed. The booklet is actually told like a picture book, it looks like its set to be in the 50's and the b/f is caught cheating, kills the girlfriend hides the body and so on. One original thing about this cd though is the names, all after Tom Cruise movies (That short shmuck better be flattered) if you thought "you had me at hello" was brutal, you havent heard anything yet. Grab a copy of this cd, learn the lyrics and get in the pit.

Bury Your Dead are one of the top 4 modern tough guy hardcore kings alongside Hatebreed, Terror, and Throwdown. If you like slamming riffs, tough guy vocals, and lyrics that will make you stand up for yourself buy this. After listening to this disc I couldn't help but practice out some of my windmill kicks, my floor punches, windmill punches, and my overall Kung Fu style. Bury Your Dead has some of the most pulverizing breakdowns in hardcore, songs like Magnolia, Mission Impossible, and Mission Impossible 2 are just pure genius. If you thought Perseverance was tough, if you thought One With the Underdogs was tough, if you thought Haymaker was tough, let me tell you this you dont know the meaning of tough. Bury Your Dead has arrived to pump new life into the tough guy hardcore scene, now put your dancing shoes on and windmill kick someone in the face.

Perhaps a diamond in the rough,

Bury Your Dead are a pretty standard tough guy hardcore group. Heavy guitars, guttural vocals, breakdowns galore-nothing new at all. And yet, I find myself truly enjoying this album every time I give it a spin, which has been surprisingly often.
Pretty much everything on this record is above average. The guitars are nice and pummeling, and a lot of the work is pretty good. One reviewer namedropped Meshuggah in an earlier review, which I found absurd at first, but I've come to realize that a lot of this record sounds like the more straightforward 4/4 stuff on Destroy Erase Improve with a football player instead of a robot on vox. Oh, and no solos of course either. The drums are good as well. Nothing Meshuggah-caliber this time, but pretty impressive for a hardcore band. Nice fills and double bass work compliment the pounding rhythm perfectly. Vocalist Mat is probably one of the best vocalists in hardcore to this day. His deep, tough-as-nails shouting achieves a great balance between brutality and clarity. He doesn't bore or annoy me, which is more than I can say about almost every other hardcore vocalist. The lyrics are another highlight, surprisingly introspective for such heavy-handed music. Not exactly poetry, but as the opening line from "Mission: Impossible 2" says, "I never said that I was a ****ing poet." Probably my favorite thing about this record is the production. Thick, meaty, and brutal as possible: exactly how hardcore should sound. The dual guitars are captured perfectly, and the drums sound awesome. You can't really hear the bass too well, but when can you ever? Oh, and maybe I'm just easily amused, but I think that naming every one of your songs after a Tom Cruise movie is pretty funny, especially for a hardcore band. What's better than a bunch of sweaty kids in camo shorts shouting "Eyes Wide Shut!" or "Magnolia!" at shows? Maybe this doesn't really deserve a four star rating. I guess it's not exactly hard to stand out in a genre where Hatebreed is the standard, but Bury Your Dead's Cover Your Tracks is both brutal as hell and a lot of fun. If you're into Terror, Throwdown, Hatebreed, Hoods, et al, I can't fathom why you wouldn't love this record. BYD easily surpass all the aforementioned bands as well as nearly all of their tough guy contemporaries. If you're not into hardcore, I'd understand and probably advise you to steer clear, but if you're a veteran mosher, you NEED this.

Stomping hardcore and I enjoy it thoroughly.,

These guys do not mess around. Throw Hatebreed and Meshugga in a blender and you will pour out Bury Your Dead. Great throaty vovals, a hundred tons of bottom end and enough break downs to make sure kids come out of shows bleeding. This really is some of the heaviest real hardcore I've heard in awhile. Many call these guys "tough guy" hardcore in the vein of Throwdown...and they are probably right. But BYD is much better, espcecially in the lyric department. If I could I would give this cd 6 stars just because they named every single song pointlessly (and hilariously) after a Tom Cruise movie. Here's the track list:
1. Top Gun 2. Vanilla Sky 3. Mission: Impossible 4. Eyes Wide Shut 5. Magnolia 6. The Outsiders 7. Mission: Impossible 2 8. The Color Of Money 9. Risky Business 10. Legend 11. All The Right Moves 12. Losin' It Personally, Magnolia is the best track on the album. Has some great guitar work that stands out from all the other tracks. Great for fans of hatebreed, throwdown, chimaira, darkest hour, or misery signals.

Mat is Back in Bury Your Dead!,
By
This review is from: Cover Your Tracks (Audio CD)
It was confirmed on January 17th 2011 that Mat Bruso is back on vocals, when I found out that Mat was back in the band, I was the happiest person in the world, because they are my favorite band, especially with Mat on vocals. It wasn't the same Bury Your Dead with Myke. Mat makes Bury Your Dead. I can't wait for their new album it should be out in Summer 2011. I bought Cover Your tracks when I was 13, and that was six years ago. I still love them just as much as I did then. This album, and Beauty and The Breakdown is the best hardcore albums ever! Bury Your Dead will rule and tear up 2011. I can't wait to see them live, it will be the best time of my life. Their Alive DVD was so amazing. Bury Your Dead is one of my favorite five bands. Beauty and The Breakdown is my favorite album released within the last seven years. I can listen to Cover Your Tracks, and Beauty and The Breakdown on repeat for hours, that's how good Bury Your Dead is. To me personally I think nobody in music is better than Bury Your Dead.

Everything you could ever want in a hardcore disc: super heavy, wall of sound, pummeling breakdowns. No one does hardcore like these guys.

This is really like the only hardcore band i like.Screw your hatebreed's and your terror i hate the guys in this band(not matt)but their music is great it's great to mosh to it.I suggest you get a copy of this cd,half metalcore and half hardcore makes it MOSHCORE not much into breakdowns but they're cool this band has many of them and brutal. After this go listen to heavier more real metal like some death metal, deathcore, grindcore or try some of the early stuff of THE RED CHORD
