I bought this book for my 13 year old son. I read it and enjoyed it. It was very interesting and easy to read for a kid but not too easy that an adult would not want to read it. Great story line and I would recommend this book if you like mysteries.

The story line of two teens who crack the mystery involving high profile characters is not new. This book reminded me of a modern day Hardy Boys/ Nancy Drew type. I would recommend this book for someone who likes sports (in this case, football) and the publicity surrounding it. It is not a suspenseful book, but a good book for those (like teenage reluctant readers) who want/need something to read that will keep you interested, but still be able to put it down.

Cover Up
By John Feinstein Book Review Cover Up by John Feinstein is a sports thriller about Stevie Thomas and Susan Carol Anderson and their adventures at the Super Bowl. The California Dreams are playing the Baltimore Ravens in Indianapolis. Stevie and Susan Carol have now been doing a TV program with USTV. It is a talk show about sports and they thought the kid reporters would be a hit. Only Susan Carol was. After about three months Stevie got fired and Susan Carol was in a dilemma whether to quit because she only wanted to work with Stevie or stick through her contract and go on without Stevie. She ends up working with USTV. Stevie worked with the Washington Herald and then CBS. Stevie got invited to write at the Super Bowl and ironically Susan Carol is shooting there. At the Super Bowl nobody expected the California Dreams to be there. Their quarterback, Eddie Brennan, is in his second year in the league and still developing. Unfortunately the Dream's owner is a jerk. Their whole offensive line didn't pass their drug test so they all took steroids or performance enhancement drugs. Stevie and Susan Carol know about this because one of the Ravens' equipment managers is friends with Eddie Brennan and it just passed on. Little Donny, the Dream's owner, is covering this up so his team can win the Super Bowl. It is up to Susan Carol and Stevie to make sure the Dreams offensive line gets caught and the Super Bowl is played fair. I thought Cover Up was a good book. This is the second book of John Feinstein that I have read and they both were very good. This is a sports mystery book with many twists and turns like when the Dreams' quarterback tries to help Susan Carol and Stevie he gave them information, but he said he wouldn't rat on his whole offensive. If he did that they wouldn't protect him and he would get sacked all the time. One of Eddie's favorite quotes is "In football, the bad thing is the good thing. That means don't rat on anyone." This book is also suspenseful. At the end of the book when the Super Bowl is being played Eddie Brennan doesn't come out and play. That is all I am going to say or else I would give this book away. This book to me is a solid 9 out of 10. The suspense and mystery is a good mix with sports. I wasn't told to read this book and it wasn't recommended to me. I found it and enjoyed it. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to read. Even if you don't like sports or mysteries you would still like this book. This book is almost like Last Shot or Mystery at the U.S. Open. They both involve sports and mysteries. Stevie and Susan Carol are in both these books and whether they are trying to stop an owner, teacher or even a player, they always get the job done, some way, somehow. The different things are they are all different sports, tennis, football and NCAA basketball. If you like mysteries, sports, one or the other or both, you will like this book. Alex

Not very believable,

Hey! Lets let our 14 year old kids go to the super-bowl, unsupervised, and work ungodly hours, go to parties that last until 1:00 AM, go to meetings non-stop, and harass players and managers. I'm sorry, maybe I was too old to read this particular book, but I couldn't really get into the story due to trying to imagine these kids having the self discipline to write out reports and articles and get their work-outs in. I can't believe these kids are running around unsupervised, staying in motel rooms with no adult supervision, and having high-end jobs that you need a degree to achieve. This possibly could have been better enjoyed by teens, where they still have the drive to dream. If your child loves sports, I would recommend this book. Maybe not adults
