Apply the eye liner first - start at the inner corner of your eye and draw a line close to your lash line. Then apply the eye shadow and apply the lightest shade to entire lid. Smooth a medium shade on your eyelid from lashes to the crease. Blend a deeper shade into and slightly above the crease of your eye. I read many reviews for this -Cover Girl Exact Eyelights Eye Kits- and watched one on an internet video. Most stated this product did not enhance their eye color, but for me it certainly did. I have an evening wedding to attend in a few weeks as mother of the groom and was looking for a great eye makeup look. I have slightly olive skin, brown eyes, and dark circles since childhood, which can make eye makeup application tricky when trying not to accentuate that darkness. Using the images at Amazon to see the colors in each Eyelights kit enabled me to make an educated selection and I did NOT choose the one for my Brown Eyes. The shadows were way too dark looking, so I chose the kit for Hazel Eyes, which has two matted light-medium brown shades, a shimmery pale pinkish, and a light shimmery sea-foam green.
Now, if you have an olive skin tone you know that certain shades of green do not compliment your skin tone at all, but pulls out a yellow cast. The green shadow in this kit does not do this. The green liner has a blueish undertone as opposed to a yellow, so it just worked great for me. The Eyelights mascara does have gold flecks in the black color, but they are far from being prominent-sparkly. By purchasing the Hazel Eyes kit as opposed to the Brown Eyes kit, my eye color did pop!! My eyes popped lighter brown and by applying the shadows, liner and mascara correctly (even on lower lash line) my dark circles were not accentuated; in fact, they were lessened due to not using dark shades. SUCCESS! for me. I hope this review is helpful for someone else.

I found that in order for the color to show up decently it would have to be applied rather aggressively. The application brush that is added makes this problem worse, as it seems to 'brush' off the color that you were trying to put on.
The color palette for blue eyes seemed a little 80's with the bright green and blue but I decided to try it out. The two lighter colors didn't show at all on my skin and the green and blue brought attention to my eyes but not in the way it's supposed to. Now in all fairness I have very fair skin so a warmer complexion might have better results.
