5.0 out of 5 stars As far as options books go, this is a keeper...
This book was an enjoyable read, told from a "story" perspective. Oddly enough, one of the things I really took from this book is how the author records his stock/options trading--it's a simple, easy-to-read method that I have now adopted (I used to record every minute detail about a trade, but it's really unnecessary).

Finally a book that has a strategy...

I bought this book based upon its glowing reviews. I was a little disappointed. This book is fine for the beginning options investor, but I was looking for something more advanced. The author tries to present the information in the form of a story, but he is clearly no story writer. The story uses up a lot of space in a misguided effort to amuse and entertain. If I want amusement I will buy non-fiction. Also, this particular story is incredibly condescending to females, whom the author presents as decorative fluff entirely incapable of understanding something as mysterious and highly technical as stock options. I kept looking at the inside cover, thinking maybe this was a book that was written decades ago -- it reads like something out of the 1950's.

I did like the author's method of picking stocks for covered calls, although this entire informaton could be presented in less than one chapter.

1.0 out of 5 stars See Spot Run, June 5, 2005

This book is in simple story form page after page after page. Pump high living and how to get rich now. Follow me and subscribe to my software. Nothing you can not get free on the web or make up in a spread sheet/data base yourself. If it was not for the long winded "see Spot run" story of friends talking to friends about the money tree the book would be readable in 20 minutes. All this is my opion of course but read a few pages. It is a rip off as far as I am concerned.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money, June 14, 2005

Please don't buy this book based on the title.

The book is 150 pages long and written (badly written) as a novel with only about 10 pages total devoted to options. Needless to say I'm sorely disappointed with this book.

Finally a book that has a strategy to teach. The author provides a formula of sorts for selecting stocks to write puts/covered calls on. The only shortcoming, in my opinion, is that once you find stocks that fit his criteria, they usually lack volatility and thus have smaller option premiums (but I guess this is the price you pay for an "ideal" trade).

I highly recommend this book--it will inspire you. I often implement his formula into my decisions--too soon to tell how it works.

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY HANDS ON AND INFORMATIVE, July 25, 2006
This review is from: Covered Calls and Naked Puts: Create Your Own Stock Options Money Tree (Paperback)
If you can get past the format of the book, which is a fictional tale of a retiired professor teaching a Florida community about option investing, and apprecite the actual easy to apply formulas he gives you, then this is a must read.

He goes over everything that made hom successful with "safe" option investing in full detail.

1. Stock selection
2. Naked put selection,
3. Acceptable rates of return for covered calls based on
expiration period.

These are all spelled out explicitly with the formulas to calculate every variable, along with his stock screening criteria which could be applied for free on any financial web-site.

I read some reviews that implied he wrote the book to sell software. I do not think that is the case, as he laid out his formulas so clearly, that anyone could apply them to an EXCEL spreadsheet, along with stock screening criteria. His willingness to give you the formulas and other variables required to succeed are unique to the investing, especially options education, industry.

FOr the money, there is no better value.

Do yourself a favor and buy this book. I've been doing cc writing and option investments for some time. This primer picks up where most other books on covered calls leave off. In addition to covering naked puts, the author holds your hand through critical factors such as when to buy, what to buy, how to buy... simply "put", this is a great book at a very reasonable price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book for the Beginning Options Investor, June 27, 2004

If you are looking to increase the earnings on your portfolio with a minimum of risk this book is for you. You will learn in a very interesting writing style how to use Covered Calls and Naked Puts to generate a cash flow that could average 25% a year regardless if the market is going up or down. The author even takes into account taxes and losses to arrive at this figure. He introduces a number of basic conservative concepts using covered calls and naked puts but really places the emphasis on how to pick the right stocks in the first place. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in increasing their portfolio income by learning how to use convered calls and naked puts to achieve their investment goals. Once you have read the book you will be very comfortable using these investment tools.

5.0 out of 5 stars the options primer every trader should read, June 26, 2004

This review is from: Covered Calls and Naked Puts: Create Your Own Stock Options Money Tree (Paperback)
Ron's new book does not offer the reader the Holy Grail for options trading, but rather provides a very logical and disciplined approach to this type of investing. His writing style is easy to read and understand. He greatly simplifies a complex subject. A good portion of the book is devoted to proper stock selection, with very definable criteria to greatly improve the odds of placing a winning trade. He continually reminds the reader of the importance of managing risk. For any aspiring options trader, this book is A MUST!

1.0 out of 5 stars Book is way too 101. Maybe for a High Schooler, March 4, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Covered Calls and Naked Puts: Create Your Own Stock Options Money Tree (Paperback)
If you are in High School and want to learn about Covered Calls, great, this is for you.

Otherwise this book was way too elementary. They added a silly storyline to make the 1/2 inch thick book thicker. Something about a long lost professor who shows his old former student "come with me on a journey" type explanation of covered calls.

The book barely talks about Naked Puts, which is why I bought it.

It talks about a system to pick the right stocks. This is still WAY too risky. I think one should only do covered calls on an index like SPY, and skip his system for picking the right stocks (but that is my bias).

Oh yeah, the entire book is an infomercial for a software they want to sell you.

Also he tries to pick the direction of the market, as opposed to making money regardless of the market.

The only good thing was this chart that he had that predicted a collapse in 2007 of the stock market. That was dead on.

I would stick to getting your info on the web for free. Unless you want a very 101 background. No actual investor would use this book and start doing covered calls.

1.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly bad, April 25, 2008
By
Praxis (Cupertino, California United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Covered Calls and Naked Puts: Create Your Own Stock Options Money Tree (Paperback)
This book is good for improving your speed reading skills as you scan the trite "story" for any useful nuggets. About 15% of the verbiage has anything to do with options. The rest is sophomoric prose representing the characters' acquisition of the keys to consistent 28% returns from the professor, which you too can obtain buy purchasing his simple software.

The testimonials on the back suggesting the text could serve as an "academic supplement to hedging financial instruments" are especially ludicrous.
