5.0 out of 5 stars For Special Ops novels and non-fiction, Dick Couch sets the standard

2.0 out of 5 stars good subject - poor writing
I didn't read the first book but this is a loser. I tried to keep going past the first 100 pages but this is boring writing, trying to tackle an exciting subject. Save your money and your reading time.

5.0 out of 5 stars For Special Ops novels and non-fiction, Dick Couch sets the standard, July 31, 2005
This review is from: Covert Action (Mass Market Paperback)
I've read several books by this author. I like the way he takes you along on a mission, in this case a compelling bio-terrorism scenario set in Africa. When you read a Dick Couch novel you quickly realize that he's been there. He combines an exciting story line with an attention to detail that is only possible from an author with actual operational experience. His non-fiction credentials ("Warrior Elite", "The Finishing School", and his newly published "Down Range") are readily apparent in his novels. In a field crowded with Spec Ops story-tellers, Dick Couch stands out as the real thing.

from the author who has the credentials and knowledge to bring utmost realism to this frightening bioterrorism scenario. Packed with details and believability. Couch does an amazing job of putting the reader squarely into the action. I loved the characters, stereotypes and all. A page turner and sleep depriver in every respect.

A riveting story, masterfully told!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mercenary Team Thwarts Terrorist Biological Attack Plan, March 23, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Covert Action (Mass Market Paperback)
A wealthy industrialist has financed a company called Guardian Services International as a worldwide provider of physical and consulting services.
There was a link between the U.S. government and a GSI subsidiary known as IFOR (Intervention Force). Middle Eastern Terrorists have put together a team of rogue scientists to develop a strain of Smallpox that they plan on infecting the world with. The project is located in a remote area of Zimbabwe. The U.S. cannot operate against the terrorists while they are in Africa. So this is a perfect mission for IFOR. An attack is planned and carried out successfully. An fast moving and exciting read.

This is an excellent followup to the first book about IFOR
(Intervention Force). This is a professional strike team that handles situations that governments do not get involved in.The
IFOR group is called on to go to Tonga a province of Zimbabwea.
The United Staes has gone on the alert for bioterrorism after an
outbreak of hemorrhagic fever and the dissapearance of local
citizens.Garrett Walker leads the IFOR group into the African
province and discovers that hemorrahagic fever(African smallpox)
is part of a terrorist plan to erradicate the population of
America. This diseaseis being created in an old hotel in Africa. The hotel is set up with a lab for the forces of evil to do their dirty work.Once again terrorist kingpin Pavel Zelinkow is in action. He is partnered with Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in this effort.
You have Janet Brisco as well as some new characters in this
story.Tonga,an African warrior and Akheem Kelley Rogers are two
of the newest members of IFOR.This is an exciting read that you will enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Captured the location!, May 19, 2007

My style of book and an enjoyable read! Having been raised in Rhodesia, I am very familiar with the situation in Zimbabwe and with the area within which the "hotel" is located. I feel that Couch gave a very good, unbiased, informative explanation of the history of Zimbabwe and the current situation that exists there. He effectively captured the Zambezi/Matusadonha area, and I really felt like I was there. His descriptions of the African Team were great to read and the personal experiences of each member rang very true to my own experiences. The story was fast-paced and intriguing with a modern interest around the manipulation of diseases for mass destruction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Experience the intensity of the moment... Feel the adrenalin!, September 11, 2005
By
This review is from: Covert Action (Mass Market Paperback)
What separates Couch's action novels from most other authors is his ability to draw the reader into the story line. It makes investing time in the reading worthwhile. For this reader, it is as though he is there, in every page, experiencing the tension and uncertainty of the mission planning; the adrenalin of the firefight; and everything in between.

Couch has delivered once again in "Covert Action." This reader experienced, however vicariously, the intensity and heat of every moment. Another great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Couch Delivers Again!, August 23, 2005
By
This review is from: Covert Action (Mass Market Paperback)
After reading "The Mercenary Option", I eagerly anticipated a continuation of the Intervention Force (IFOR) series. The wait was well worth it, as Couch has delivered another gem of a story. He is a master at constructing very plausible, high imact terrorist threat scenarios affecting the international community and in developing an action packed covert action team response to them. I now eagerly await the next book in this highly entertaining series.

5.0 out of 5 stars authentic action from a former SEAL, August 22, 2005
By
This review is from: Covert Action (Mass Market Paperback)
Dick Couch take us into the fight again. This time, his operators are confronting a bio-terror weapon being brewed up by the radical Islamist's in Africa. Couch's intimate familiarity with special operations brings authenticity to "Covert Action", the latest in his series of Intervention Force action novels. You get the feeling you might be reading tomorrow's headlines today(assuming this type of covert action were ever made public). And we could only wish that the IFOR actually existed. If you enjoy Clancy, you'll enjoy the Couch even more--"Covert Action" is a terrific read.
