the difference between this one and the one i enjoyed for 15 years is in the sliding mirrors. the old one had the mirrors sliding on parallel tracks; this new one has them sitting in the same track. where the mirrors overlap on this one track they are almost impossible to slide. i was determined to not go through the hassle of a return, so i worked for over two hours intermittantly before i could get the two mirrors to close completely. in doing so, i put a small scratch on one mirror: my fault. i appreciate excellence, but i'm not a perfectionist; therefore, i am satisfied with this product.

This is a well constructed birdfeeder that works just as advertised. It took the birds in our backyard a few days to discover their new feeder - but once they did it was constantly occupied by a wide variety of birds. My wife and I love to stand at the window and observe them as they select their choice of seeds and then shell them - all while seemingly looking right as us through the one way mirror ! I would have given this item 5 stars if the mirrors were constructed in a better manner. They fit in a single track and we find it difficult to slide them back and forth when filling the feeder from inside the window. Additionally, one of my mirrors arrived with some find scratches on it. It still works and I elected not to return it to the vendor for replacement although I may do so in the future. Overall, a wonderful addition for anyone that enjoys observing birds up close and natural !

This is one of my favorite feeders! It allows us to see the cute birds up close and personal! :) They seldom fly away when we are watching nose to beak. :) The best part is that the window can stay locked while the birds feed. I also have the inside the window feeder, but only feel safe with that feeder in the upper stories as it is harder to lock the window. Luckily, this feeder can stay outside any locked window, which means my home office can also see the cute birdies up close and personal.
As for the sliding mirrors in the same track, I have no issues with the mirrors lining up. Every once in a while I get a seed in the track, but that is easily removed. Also, if yours does not come with knobs to move the mirrors you can use the kitchen door / furniture bumpers. :)

A very well-made product that performs exactly as advertised. The wood appears to be unfinished, so I suggest putting a coat or two of clear polyurethane on the wooden surfaces before installation.

Best feeder ever! We raised our house way up to get it out of the flood level and now it is difficult to see any birds at the feeders in the yard. When I saw this bird feeder I was hopeful it would work out. Well, it has been fantastic! It took several days for the birds to find it but once they did, wow! They love it and we love watching them. The only problem we had was with the blackbirds invading. My hubby attached a wire coat rack across the opening allowing most birds access but keeping out the blackbirds. Genius. Now we get the chickadee, finch, blue jay, mockingbird, woodpecker, cardinal and more. We are so happy we took a chance on this wonderful feeder. Wild Birds Unlimited has a no mess bird food that works great in the feeder. We've used sunflower seeds but the shells pile up and are a little bit of trouble to clean out.
