This review is from: A Cow for the Holy Spirit, An Immigrant's Journey: The Azores to California (Paperback)
"The universe is made of stories, not atoms."- Muriel Rukeyser. This book's beautiful and well chosen cover immediately caught my attention as did the title. After opening the book and reading the quote in the preface and the dedication I knew this was the story for me. Jose Luis da Silva's description on the back cover gives a good overview of the story. Although written from an Azorean perspective it is highly valuable for anyone who has stood on the side of the street watching a Portuguese festa pass by and wondering what was going on with the girls in bride dresses and crowns. The author did an excellent job in explaining the traditions of the Holy Spirit. Highly recommended.
