A must-have CD,

This review is from: Cow Island Hop (Audio CD)
One doesn't have to be Cajun or from Louisiana to enjoy this music, but for those of us who are, the latest work from this extraordinary group of young Cajun artists speaks to our soul. Their synergy, creativity, instrumental mastery, and heart bring Cajun music and culture alive. Living in Texas, I don't get to hear them perform live nearly as much as I'd like, but in the meantime, Cow Island Hop will do just fine. With this group leading the next generation telling our stories, the Cajun culture is indeed in good hands. Great album!

Learned of Feufollet a couple of months ago, watched a few internet performance videos. Researched releases and ordered Cow Island Hop, love it! Traveled to Eunice, LA to see Feufollet live on June 5th. Great band.Alan

These musicians do an excellent job of infusing new enthusiasm into an old form, while still respecting the traditions of it. But most of all, they are just plain fun to listen to. You can tell that they live and breathe the music.

Feufollet is a great new cajun band that's really not that new. They have been around a few years and it shows in their music. Their sound is traditional with a touch of modern. As a lover of old time cajun music and ethnic music around the world, Cow Island Hop has a little of a lot. They touch on Balfa, and much more. Highly recommend them!

Absolutely a Joy!,

I am not Cajun, I don't speak French and I happen to be Polish. I've only been to Louisiana once, and my stay was not long enough. Some of the music on the CD reminds me of Polish polkas at weddings, makes you want to get up and dance. The melodies on Cow Island Hop are wonderful. This CD is full of actual music, is very entertaining, and comes from artists that have a very strong future. I too heard this group on NPR. Way to go Feufollet! Bev, the Cheesehead from Wisconsin

Have had some minor interest in Zydeco/Cajun music. Saw Feufollet on TV; thought them to be interesting and decided to by the CD. It has proved to be as expected. Good sounds for that genre.

Feufollet is a group of people who had started performing at a young age, But know where they wanted to be and became a great entertainment group. The music is cajun (Arcadian) and I find it uplifting and lifelike at times. I highly recommend this album as both fun and enlightening. It is a look into a culture that we seldom see.

Taking Cajun music into the 21st Century,
By
This review is from: Cow Island Hop (Audio CD)
Taking Cajun music into the 21st CenturyThe group of six young musicians from Louisiana have taken the traditional string band music performed by the Balfa Brothers in the 1940s-1960s and that of Beausoliel and Mark Savoy in the 70s and 80s and tweaked it to bring it up to the 21st century. I haven't gone to their web site yet (www.feufollet.com) to download the lyrics in English (the songs are all performed in French) so I'm not sure what the subject of each is. But the arrangements and instrumentation had me from the get-go. The CD doesn't list the instruments each of the members plays - and they are shown in photos without instruments - so I can't pick the standouts. But their "guest musicians" play drums, Steel Guitar, Mellotron, Trumpet, Saxophone and TUBA. (TUBA????). And it works. Most of the songs are traditional ones that I recognized from recordings by the aforementioned Cajun legends, and there are a few original songs as well. The CD runs less than 45 minutes for the 11 tracks and suddenly I found the album ending. We, it was time to hit the "replay" button. When time permits, I'll check out their web site and learn more about them. Until then, all I can say is that the music is mighty fine. Steve Ramm "Anything Phonographic"

If you want just a taste of Cajun flavor in your music collection, this one album would be a perfect choice. I know nothing about the depths of local music, but I have always loved hearing this style when it would come up on the radio. The people on NPR reviewed it and I bought it and it a joyful addition to my CD collection.

A wonderful, emerging new voice in Cajun music,
This review is from: Cow Island Hop (Audio CD)
A wonderful discovery we heard about on NPR. We grew up in Southern Louisiana, and this music is the spirit of Acadiana. They are being called the Beau Soleil of our generation, and that's a fair honor for this wonderful, emerging group.
