Story of Righteous Violence,
By
This review is from: Coward Of The County (2006 Digital Remaster) (MP3 Download)
Every few years, an attention-seeking politician rails publicly against ultra-violent rap music (although the current bête noire is violent video games). This song is a prime example that country music can be every bit as violent as rap. Coward of the County asks when violence is justified and gives an answer a lot of people won't like. Rogers is careful with his language. Tommy misinterprets his father's last words. His father told him, "you don't have to fight TO BE a man." In the final verse, Tommy recognizes "sometimes you gotta fight WHEN you're a man." A vital distinction. It's storytelling at its best, and Rogers signals an ominous turn at will by lowering his voice.

Fantastic song,

This song is so beautiful, I absolutely love listening to it, I am surprised it is not considered one of the greatest songs of all time. The lyrics, the storyline involved and the melody is all so catchy. What a beautiful story. Irony, apology, anger, everything...love it.
