5.0 out of 5 stars Jupiter Jazz concludes, a chess game begins., April 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Cowboy Bebop - Jupiter Jazz (Vol. 7) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
'Jupiter Jazz' part II concludes the story which started in the last tape, and does it's job adequately although rather thin on plot. The first episode was incredibly well rendered with a couple exciting fight scenes. Part II isn't quite as dynamicly laid out, but has a few decent sequences. Vicious doesn't make quite as big an appearance as one would wish, but his evil is defined, and Julia, Spike's one true love, has threads to this episode which allow for Spike to realize she still might share his feelings. A hermaphoridite, a space ship battle, sacrifice, love lost, Faye handcuffed on a bed, past memories, betrayal, guns, swords, crows ... how much more do you need to be entertained? The use of snow and blue backgrounds on Blue Crow give a great contrast to the rest of the series' reds and yellows and allows the crew to have a change of winter clothes. 'Bohemian Rhapsody' the second episode is a tricky super sleuth story where the crew actively tracks down a faceless bounty who is cunningly ripping money out of people's credit accounts as they pass through the hyperspace gates. The only clue the Bebop crew can find are some chess pieces found on the culprits carrying out the mastermind's exploitive plans. Jet soon finds no one, including the gate corporation, will help solve this case....but Ed has been playing internet chess against the bounty all week! A really good story with great scenarios in a burned out hippie junkyard in space. Over all, I would rate this tape at 4.5 stars. The art and animation are still great, the characters are the best of modern anime, and the stories are decent. Yoko Kanno's music is brilliant. Buy it! You won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Anime, August 21, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Cowboy Bebop - Jupiter Jazz (Vol. 7) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I know that this volume isnt as great as the other ones, but they had to do this. Because Bebop is a great series, but if all the episodes were so cool, we'd be spoiled. 'Jupiter Jazz Part 2' answered more questions that were left unanswered in Episode 5. Finally, we get to find out about that music box. And theres a really great fight scene in it too. The episode ends with with credits rolling as we are shown pictures of space, backed up by a nice choir song. 'Bohemien Rhapsydy' was an okay episode. It started out with Faye, Jet and Spike catching 20 culprits, but they dont get money for it because it wasnt the master mind. The show ends kinda awkward since the master mind is senile and cant remember his plan. None the less, Bebop is still great and the second episode does nothing to improve or dampen the Bebop spirit. In other words, the perfect show.

4.0 out of 5 stars Be a friend... tell someone about Cowboy Beebop!, August 5, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Cowboy Bebop - Jupiter Jazz (Vol. 7) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I was a little disappointed by the wrap up of "Jupiter Jazz." It seemed like there was a bit more that could have been done with it but it was still handled very well. And it was your usual CB visual feast. I still think it's amazing that the animators are able to design a unique spaceship/fighter plane for every new character that comes along. Episode 14 was an excellent mystery with a surprise ending that actually made me say, "Huh. Neat." out loud. Ed was cute as usual. I wish I could catch chess pieces with my mouth. Spike and Jet have grown as characters as well. In an earlier episode Spike was griping about how he hated animals and kids but now he and Jet seem to almost be a Bob Sagat/Dave Collier "Full House" parenting team to Ed. With guns of course.
