Rafe Cassidy wants Margaret Lark back a year after he threw her out of his life for choosing loyalty to her employer over him. He honestly thought she would crawl back to him, begging forgiveness. Rafe immediately renews his marriage proposal, but Margaret doesn't want to take second place to his work, knowing what a workaholic he is. She will agree to the role his mother once claimed she suited: mistress.

Rafe's pride takes a beating, but he isn't the type to ever admit that he might be wrong. Headstrong and stubborn, he needs an equally strong woman for his partner, to avoid walking all over her. Another exciting read by Krentz.

Margaret Lark no longer worked in the corporate world. She had been torn between her employer and lover only a year ago. Now the lover, Rafe is back. He was ruthless in the corporate world and their relationship came second. But he has changed since he lost Maggie. Maggie comes first this time and he is determined to win her back.

Rafe lured Maggie out to his ranch by informing her that her father is getting married to his mother. Now she is on his turf and the battle of wills has begun.

This was my first Jayne Krentz book and I loved it. It was great to have a book about people in a real relationship who had some real problems. Rafe's determination to win Maggie back was charming and refreshing. It was nice to see two characters having heart to heart talks about their problems as well as some steamy romance.

I loved this entire series. Each one was different yet fit together so perfectly. "The Pirate" was fun and adventurous; "The Adventurer" was pure toe-curling romance; and "The Cowboy" was a tightly woven story with a REAL relationship issue. What a wonderful conclusion to the series.

I must say that Margaret Lark has nothing to recommend herself for a strong female character.

She is ready to hop back into bed with Rafe Cassidy even though she does not trust him. What a bummer!

Rafe Cassidy is the typical alpha male, arrogant, determined to have his way - but he learns to bend.

He appears gracious in his emotional growth - but Maggie?

This is not the best of the trilogy but is an easy read - has a bit of growth to the plot but why is it always assumed that love grows out of PMS [premarital sex]?

Yup! she was still his mistress - what a come down for the modern woman - no guts to say no.

Where is the strength of character not to give into temptation?

Just weak, wishy-washy females.

Revenge seems to motivate many people and injects a bit of tension with something to back down from - at their ages they should be more mature.

Still a readable story as part of the trilogy.

I love stories of men who won't give up on the women they love. And this book was it! I loved it when Rafe put Maggie in a situation where she couldn't get out of and that, of course, put Rafe in close contact with Maggie!

"The Cowboy" (book three of three, after "The Pirate" and "The Adventurer") is the best of this five-star trilogy. If you're planning to buy one, you might as well buy all three and read them in order.

As is the case with the other 2 books in this short story series, the hero in "The Cowboy" can be exasperatingly alpha at times, but he makes amends well enough to the heroine and some how Krentz - as usual - pulls it off wonderfully. I wanted this last story to go on and on well after the 246 pages were done!

As a Texas native who now lives in Oklahoma, I have seen my share of cowboys. I know this may seem picky, but I couldn't get past the fact that Rafe was constantly described as wearing boots with flower or star patterns. Note to Ms. Krentz: No self respecting cowboy would allow himself to wear such prissy clothing! Other than this obvious faux pas, the story seemed pretty much like the standard Krentz romance. Arrogant man bent on revenge meets feisty heroine who convinces him revenge is not the answer. I sometimes think Ms. Krentz's characters are interchangeable. On the plus side, this is a light, breezy romance perfect for an easy read. If you aren't expecting an original plot and you can stomach a cowboy with purple flowers on his boots, then this is the book for you.

A nice book in all but not something that really stands out. The humor is lovely and the passion sizzling. Quite simply it's just another JAK book. It's what she is known for and it's what got her famous. Buy it or go to the library!

I don't like alpha males, donkey kings, or whatever you call very very very stubborn and arrogant heroes. Some authors write them well, others don't. I guess in 1990 Ms Krentz is still polishing up her act because the guy in this book is very very annoying.

Worse, the heroine is one of those women who insists she will do as she please while following the hero's orders. Irritating. After a while all I wanted to do is to close the book and imagine forcing those two to watch Barney until they plead mercy.

Of all three of the Legends and Ladies trilogy, the best (to me) is the Pirate, even that one is only a three-star book. At such a steep price, I'd recommend saving for "Flash". At least that one is new.
