MAN FOF THE MONTH

CODE OF THE WEST

MR. JULY

IMMOVABLE OBJECT: Exrodeo cowboy Taggart Jones

IRRESISTIBLE FORCE: Felicity Albright, schoolteacher—and perfect wife material

UNSTOPPABLE KID: Matchmaking daughter who knows best

Taggart Jones had no intention of getting married again. He'd been there, done that. And not even a delectable, sexy woman like Felicity Albright was going to change his mind. Taggart's daughter, Becky, disagreed. Felicity knew all about barrettes and bandages, and she didn't like carrots any more than Becky did. It was obvious she was ideal for Taggart. Some men just didn't know what was good for them—especially not her bullheaded cowboy of a dad!

MAN OF THE MONTH: He's a stubborn cowboy, but a good catch—and now his daughter's about to make a match!

More About the Author

I was born in California and grew up there on the beaches of SoCal where I used to think I would write humorous social commentaries and pithy columns about life between "here and the pier" in Manhattan Beach.

But then I left. I went away to college and then married and moved to the Midwest. Since then I've been in the Midwest and Montana and made the mental transition to life with four seasons with no trouble at all.

In fact, last time I was in MB I looked at the inlaid terrazzo tiles in the sidewalk on the hill leading down to the pier and thought to myself, "Who on earth would put tiles in the sidewalk? It will be so hard to shovel the snow off!"

See?

Despite my beach upbringing, I was the child of transplanted okies and montanans, and my love of cowboys was apparently bred in the bone. The first man I fell in love with was a cowboy. I was five years old -- and I imprinted on him, following him everywhere, like a duck.

So when I started writing romance fiction years later, there was no question that even my CEOs and beach volleyball players and Greek tycoons were, at their heart, cowboy heroes.

McAllister heroes have a strong sense of honor, determination, competence, and a "get it done" attitude. They are more often lone wolves than they are alphas. They go their own way -- until they meet the woman who makes them want to share their life. And a lone wolf who takes on a spouse has to have some alpha in him. She definitely brings it out.

Writing has been a wonderful opportunity for me to expand my horizons, to learn more about things that interest me. It gives me license to satisfy my curiosity and to meet people from all walks of life. I love it. The ideas never seem to dry up. They are everywhere. I'm looking forward to writing a whole lot more.

I'm always glad to hear from readers so stop by my website or blog if you have comments or questions.

This review is from: Cowboy And The Kid (Man Of The Month) (Silhouette Desire) (Paperback)
Ex-Rodeo Cowboy Taggart Jones played an important part in 'Cowboys Stay' another Code of the West book about the story of Noah. Taggart was Noah's rodeo traveling partner until they both ended up in a really bad car accident that almost killed them. Taggart realized that being around for his daughter Becky was more important than being on the road, so he left the rodeo. Noah and Taggart opened a rodeo school. Taggart thinks that he and Becky are doing just fine. Becky, on the other hand, thinks that her dad needs a woman. Taggart was burned once before by Becky's mom, who eventually left them both, so he has no desire to marry again. Becky thinks that her teacher-Felicity would be perfect wife and mother material. Becky, with the help of her friends set out to get Felicity and Taggart together. The process and the results are both funny and heart warming. I enjoyed this book and the strong characters involved. The best part were the women-they were portrayed as strong and showed a lot of guts. A perfect addition to the Code of the West series.

#4 in the Code of the West series.

McAllister amazes me. She can really set a scene, whether it's the glitzy jet set in New York City or the small town western in Montana. And her characters are equally vivid and easy to care about. This romance between a widowed school teacher and a divorced cowboy is a perfect example. Rodeo is not something that interests me, but in reading this, I was completely engrossed. I was actually tense at the end, right there with Felicity as she struggled through. I felt like I took the class, too.

There are no plot twists, and the tone is quiet. But there were lots of secondary characters lending support. And there was plenty of humor, in the first half of the book, at least.

Enjoy.
