Book Description

September 1, 2009 Harlequin Famous Firsts
Seven years ago Amanda Carson watched her affluent, well-respected family lose both face and fortune. Then her childhood crush—ice-cold cowboy Jace Whitehall—made her an offer she had to refuse. Now Amanda has returned to Casa Verde, Jace's luxurious home. And Jace isn't about to let her forget who she is or what she's lost.

Yet beneath their heated words, something simmers, waiting. For what once drove Amanda from this land may be the one thing that can make her stay.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Diana Palmer!, February 8, 2001
By
"kat873" (Northeast PA) - See all my reviews
The Cowboy and the Lady is a must read for all Diana Palmer fans. It has all the trademarks of her writing; dominant man, woman down on her luck who adores the hero, but hates him in the same breath. Great Valentines Day read for true romantics.

At 18, Amanda Carson left west Texas, family scandal and a man she was determined to forget. But the Whitehall empire was vast, and when the powerful Texas family wanted something-including Amanda and her advertising agency-they got it. At sprawling Casa Verde, old fires were burning with intense fury. Jace Whitehall, a man Amanda hated and desired with equal intensity, was ready and waiting to finish what began years ago. Now, they must confront searing truths about both their families. Long-buried secrets that shattered so many lives are about to be exposed. And the very thing that drove Amanda from this land may be the only thing able to keep her there.

I bought this book as an original issue and have kept it since. It is one of my all-time favorites as it is a definite KEEPER for any true romance novel lover. If you enjoyed her Long, Tall Texans series, Rawhide Man, Cattleman's Choice or Friends and Lovers, you will LOVE this book!

2.0 out of 5 stars REPRINT, September 11, 2009

This review is from: The Cowboy and the Lady (Harlequin Famous Firsts) (Mass Market Paperback)
WARNING - this is a reprint from 1982.

As usual, I found the hero to be too emotionally hurtful to his heroine; and the heroine was a bit too immature acting. I got tired of her always telling Jace "I hate you!" and "Go to hell!". That was her answer for just about everything.

The story keeps going only because of constant misunderstandings between the two characters - another thing I found irritating because it seemed these two could never communicate with each other, they just kept slinging insults back and forth. How they're supposed to be able to make a good marriage in the end and actually make it last forever - I have absolutely no idea.

I'm always a sucker for a Diana Palmer novel because they're almost always western romances (my fav genre), but at the same time I know I'm going to come away from the novel disliking it because of the way she has the hero and heroine act with one another. The guy is always controlling, mean and insulting and the woman always takes it. She may get mouthy with him, but in the end of course she ends up with him.

If you're already a Diana Palmer reader then you know exactly what to expect from this book (more of the same). If you've never read her before I really can't recommend this one as being the one to start you off with. Actually, my best advice would be don't start reading her at all because despite all her accolades of being such a great author, in my opinion she really isn't.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected, January 7, 2005
By

When I saw this book in the bookstore I couldn't wait to get home and start reading it. The book started off with a bang and then took a nose dive. I have never in all my reading seen a heroine as weak as Amanda and I have seen plenty but this was Ridiculous. The Mother was trifling and "Jace" although good-looking was mean as hell one minute and honey this the next and if I had to hear about her slender body and hands more time I thought I would scream. Overall I did not like this book what- so-ever.
