Sally Timms of the Mekons provides a lovely country sampler,

Sally Timms, of Mekons fame sings some of country's classics to music played by the Waco Brothers and the Handsome Family. She has a lovely voice that rarely gets this kind of focus when she's rocking it with the Mekons. Mekons fans should take note that this is pure C&W and doesn't contain the rock flavors of the Mekons however the rhythm is strong never-the-less.I actually prefer the five cuts on this disc to her full length LP (Twilight Laments) but that really is a personal preference and should be taken with a grain of salt. Why this album? I like the rhythm on this album a lot and the Handsome Family really comes out in the one cut they play on. I am a total Mekons/WacoBros/Handsome Family/Timms fan so this sort of thing, for a person like myself, is a MUST have.

Some little country gems here, from Mekons' woman, Sally Timms.
Especially, the John Anderson and Dolly Parton numbers. As another reviewer suggests, a must for true Mekons fans. |
