Book Description

May 8, 1999
Reporter Lizzie Vaughan doesn't know it, but she has 2,000 years of royal Vampiric blood coursing through her veins. When she, along with her cowboy boyfriend Tucker, discover that the Vampires are conspiring to seize control of the ruling elite and claim Lizzie as their own, the result is an engrossing exploration of good and evil combined with laugh-out-loud humor. Gone are the days when vampires preyed on innocent virgins.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Occasionally amusing (sometimes unintentionally so), this first novel (for both authors) offers little romance, few thrills and not a single chill. Tucker is the salt-of-the-earth Wyoming cowboy to whom "New York City journalist" Lizzie runs after being grossed out by a display of vampiric bloodletting. Lizzie is, unbeknownst to her, the queen-to-be of the Vampires (always capitalized by the authors), who pursue and capture her. It seems God created both Vampires and Adamites (humans), with the latter being essentially good and the former essentially evil. God, being fair, sent Susej (read it backward) to the Vampires to die on a cross and restore their faith. From Susej comes the "royal" blood that Lizzie has inherited, making her a target of the Vampires' evil design. Tucker, of course, must come to her rescue, as any proper cowboy would. The plot is silly, but not as silly as the dialogue ("I am passion.... I am lust. I am the dark side of human sexuality in the flesh"). Bram Stoker must be rolling over in his crypt.

From Booklist

Wyoming cowboy Tucker falls in love with the least likely person: Lizzie Vaughan, a reporter from New York who disrupts his life by writing an article about him, pegging him as the last living cowboy. While researching a new story on vampires, Lizzie becomes frightened, and returns to Wyoming and the waiting arms of Tucker. But the vampires, convinced that she is their queen, track her down, kidnap her, and bring her back to New York. Tucker, with his faithful dog, Rex, in tow, heads to New York ready to face whatever vampire terrors await him for the sake of his true love, Lizzie. But he arrives too late. Julius, the head vampire, has already turned Lizzie into one of his creatures. But love prevails, and Lizzie and Tucker must find a way to stay together--and stay out of the sun. This deliciously dark, witty novel will be a hit with fans of Anne Rice and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Alexandra Baker

5.0 out of 5 stars FOR THOSE BORED WITH THE ORDINARY ROMANCE, January 6, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Cowboy and The Vampire: A Very Unusual Romance (Paperback)
A fantastic book not to be missed. Tucker is definitely one of my heros. (How many other men could accept such a unique partner as Lizzie?) I read this in one sitting, and almost saw the sunrise. (Lucky I'm not a vampire! ) I laughed continuously, cheered the good guys, and loved all of the colourful and humourous characters this book provides. I totally recommend this for those who are sick of the ordinary "been done before" romances. I now hope the authors may be persuaded to do a follow up...maybe Elita's story.

4.0 out of 5 stars A strange book that I really enjoyed, October 11, 2000

Well, the title got it right - this is an "unusual romance". I can't say I've ever read another vampire book like it. When reporter Lizzie meetes "the last cowboy", Tucker, they don't know what they are getting into. Not long after the fatal meeting Lizzie gets turned into a vampire against her will.

Despite this horrible turn of events, Tucker, being a cowboy, rides to her rescue - from therein it just gets stranger and stranger. Despite this, it is a funny and complelling read. This is a book I'm inclined to hold onto - it's worth a second read I think.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Old West meets the Big City, November 3, 2000
This review is from: Cowboy and The Vampire: A Very Unusual Romance (Paperback)
I picked this book up ... Let me tell you - I would have paid five times as much !!! The title really caught my eye, and the brief backpage description sold me. I fell in love with our cowboy Tucker, his horse Snort, his dog Rex, and even crusty old Dad.

Lizzie ? She ROCKED !!!!

Once I began reading, I could not put the book down. I literally read all night, and enjoyed every page and every minute. The style in which the book is written, alternating chapters written in first person by Tucker and Lizzie, is wonderful. Their unique and colorful personalities are reflected in their descriptive language. The characters are "killer" and the humor is divine.

I equally enjoyed the secondary characters, especially Tucker's childhood buddy Lenny the militia man and expert weapon creator. The plot is great and the story flow is pefect. Not once was I tempted to put this book down or skim a single page. The authors keep the reader in perpetual suspense - never knowing what to expect next.

PLEASE, oh please, let there be a sequel. If not, at least more books in the same "vein". Pun fully intended.

I've passed this book around to various friends and family members who have all loved it as much as I did .
