5.0 out of 5 stars FOR THOSE BORED WITH THE ORDINARY ROMANCE
A fantastic book not to be missed. Tucker is definitely one of my heros. (How many other men could accept such a unique partner as Lizzie?) I read this in one sitting, and almost saw the sunrise. (Lucky I'm not a vampire! ) I laughed continuously, cheered the good guys, and loved all of the colourful and humourous characters this book provides. I totally...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not that great
I found this book very hard to read and disjointed. Tucker's dialouge seemed contrived and silly. In fact, the book was silly, but not fun which is a shame because I had high hopes that I'd come across something different in vampire fiction.

I totally recommend this for those who are sick of the ordinary "been done before" romances. I now hope the authors may be persuaded to do a follow up...maybe Elita's story.

4.0 out of 5 stars A strange book that I really enjoyed, October 11, 2000

This review is from: Cowboy and The Vampire: A Very Unusual Romance (Paperback)
Well, the title got it right - this is an "unusual romance". I can't say I've ever read another vampire book like it. When reporter Lizzie meetes "the last cowboy", Tucker, they don't know what they are getting into. Not long after the fatal meeting Lizzie gets turned into a vampire against her will.

Despite this horrible turn of events, Tucker, being a cowboy, rides to her rescue - from therein it just gets stranger and stranger. Despite this, it is a funny and complelling read. This is a book I'm inclined to hold onto - it's worth a second read I think.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Old West meets the Big City, November 3, 2000
This review is from: Cowboy and The Vampire: A Very Unusual Romance (Paperback)
I picked this book up ... Let me tell you - I would have paid five times as much !!! The title really caught my eye, and the brief backpage description sold me. I fell in love with our cowboy Tucker, his horse Snort, his dog Rex, and even crusty old Dad.

Lizzie ? She ROCKED !!!!

Once I began reading, I could not put the book down. I literally read all night, and enjoyed every page and every minute. The style in which the book is written, alternating chapters written in first person by Tucker and Lizzie, is wonderful. Their unique and colorful personalities are reflected in their descriptive language. The characters are "killer" and the humor is divine.

I equally enjoyed the secondary characters, especially Tucker's childhood buddy Lenny the militia man and expert weapon creator. The plot is great and the story flow is pefect. Not once was I tempted to put this book down or skim a single page. The authors keep the reader in perpetual suspense - never knowing what to expect next.

PLEASE, oh please, let there be a sequel. If not, at least more books in the same "vein". Pun fully intended.

I've passed this book around to various friends and family members who have all loved it as much as I did .

4.0 out of 5 stars Gives a whole new meaning to the term "pale rider.", May 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Cowboy and The Vampire: A Very Unusual Romance (Paperback)
Just when you thought everything had been written and filmed that could be about vampires, The Cowboy and the Vampire comes along and injects new blood (pun intended) into dead matter. This story is a romp, a hoot, a gallop, a joy. Just the munitions science alone for combating vampires is a welcome change from the garlic, the crucifix and the wooden stake. And the romance? Let's just say until you've done it with a vampire, you haven't lived. Or is that died? The story starts out with Lizzie Vaughan, a journalist, doing a story on the last real cowboy, then heading back to New York with more than love in her eye. Unbeknownst to her she has the bloodlines to be the vampire Queen that the undead have been waiting 700 years for. All she needs to be is "turned." Pursued by vampires, she heads back to Wyoming and her cowboy and that's where the story really takes off. There are battles of will, battles of flesh and blood, a war between two different factions of vampires, and a treatise on just what is God's intention for vampire evil among the good and evil of the living. Even Lazarus, the man Jesus rose from the dead, plays a major role. Horror is not my usual genre. Nor are Westerns. But put the two together and you've got something that rises up out of the grave and makes great reading. The plot is so good and original, this book has movie written all over it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A "must" for vampire fiction fans!, August 7, 2000
This review is from: Cowboy and The Vampire: A Very Unusual Romance (Paperback)
A different read with a bite. An enthralling plot that captured me from the start and left me disappointed when it finally ended. A striking cover with simple graphics and color but very much to a sharp point. The authors' background in poetry and film making show through in a unique style. This is my first read from this company and if the rest of their titles offer quality even approaching this then they are superior. Tucker, an old school cowboy falls in love with big city gal, reporter Lizzie Vaughan. The thing is...Lizzie turns out to be the Queen of the Vampires. This take on this rather cliched sub-genre manages to be different even when adhering to some of the classic vampire standbys. A lot of it is very funny. Some of it ticked me off. Parts of the plot put lives in danger that I felt had no business being threatened. But I darn near laughed my pants off and even managed to be both horrified and disgusted. The one real let-down, I didn't feel the need for an extra light at night. If you are a vamp fiction fan then you have to read this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definetly worth the reading., September 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Cowboy and The Vampire: A Very Unusual Romance (Paperback)
This book is not usually the type of book that I read. A friend gave me a copy and I started reading it. It started out slow, but after the third chapter I was absorbed. I enjoyed reading it and felt that it gave a nice twist to the vampire legend. I live in Wyoming where we have real cowboys, I was offended at first because they made the cowboy seem so unintelligent. I did get used to the idea, but I could be offended if I was a cowboy. They did portray the life that a cowboy leads very closely to how they live in our state. I also loved the ending. This was a book that kept me wondering clear to the last page. Definitly worth the reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Unusual and Very Fun, March 7, 2000
This review is from: Cowboy and The Vampire: A Very Unusual Romance (Paperback)
If you are tired of the same-ole same-ole read, then you have to try this book for a unique change of pace. The cover cought my eye as I was searching for a book that I had not read yet, which was a task in itself. I was thrilled to have found it! I fell in love with Tucker and Lizzie, along with the varied other characters in the book. The locations, well let me just say that I have spent alot of time in Wyoming, and I actually bought the book for a trip I was taking to Santa Fe, what a coincidence! The locations were acurate, the story remarkably beleivable, given the subject matter. In short this was a great book! So in this one instance I am glad I judged this book by its cover!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for real Cowboys and those that wannabe!, July 2, 2001
By

This review is from: Cowboy and The Vampire: A Very Unusual Romance (Paperback)
It is obvious from the first page that the writer has had a genuine cowboy education - something that only another authentic cow"person" would recognize. For those who are not the real article this story will provide an introduction to and appreciation for "cowboy humor" and introduce you to the unique world of the cowboy as well as the vampire.

The story keeps you either hooting with laughter over the dog or the vernacular or in complete suspense as the plans of the "good" evil vampire versus the "bad" evil vampire unfold.

My only regret is that I've finished the book. This is a book you'll want to pass on to your friends...it is well worth reading for many reasons.

If you've despaired lately of reading something fresh, this is your book. I was delighted with the whole concept and can just imagine how many publishers probably turned it down for being non-conventional. I loved Tucker, the cowboy, and his homespun wisdom. Read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars READ IT - great distraction from everyday life., June 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Cowboy and The Vampire: A Very Unusual Romance (Paperback)
A truly enjoyable book and fine distraction from everyday life (or afterlife). The pace kept up; I laughed out loud, felt suspense, and rooted for the heroes. The characters were believable and the type you could have an enjoyable evening draining beers or blood, as the case may be. The story suspended my disbelief in vampires and gave them a reasonable place in the plot. Read it.
