My FAVE!,
This review is from: The Cowboy's Bride (Ever After Love Inspired Collection) (Mass Market Paperback)
I absolutely love this book! It was the first love inspired book I'd ever read and I've read many others since. Out of all the love inspired books I've read, this one is my favorite! I completely recommend this book to everyone!

Love at first sight,

Joe Brewer is a horse trainer who is forced into taking over a rundown ranch that his brother inherited from their deadbeat father. He keeps his life as simple as possible and fends off attracted Christian women who are attracted only to his looks.
Joe later meets Rebecca Stevenson at his bank; she's related to the bankers who are negotiating a loan for his ranch and she's also recuperating physically and emotionally from an accident that's left her with a slight handicap. She is everything Joe isn't: wealthy, polished, and professional. One of the better scenes in the book involves both Joe and Rebecca standing up to her family, particularly Joe's dealing with her status-symbol-obsessed sister, Jenna (who really needs to re-read 1 Timothy 6:9,10) and her parents, who assume that Rebecca can't handle living on less. For a Christian, wealth isn't necessarily bad. Jesus stated that it would be easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into the kingdom, meaning that most wealthy people want only to keep their wealth and obtain more; they don't see the true value in spiritual things (Matthew 6:33). Money isn't the root of all evil; the love of money is.

This was the first book I read from Carolyne Aarsen. I could not put this book down. Joe and Rebecca are complete opposites and by the worlds standards, they should be all wrong for eachother. It is a heartwarming story of the emotions that are involved with falling in love. I found this book to be better than a good movie!

Rebecca came from a rich family. Her sister insists she and her family continue to live the way she's accustomed to. She wants the same for Rebecca, who has moved in with her sister to get away from her over-protective parents. Rebecca seems she's being babied ever since the horse fell on her leg, giving her a permanent injury.Joe is a horse trainer who knows horses in and out, but he has his own problems. His brother, Lane, doesn't have any money sense and has put the family farm in great debt. He cannot even afford to give Joe his half of the estate. Joe has always been poor and wants definitely to get past that. Rich girl and poor boy meet...Rich girl's parents and sister do NOT approve of poor boy AT ALL. Rebecca's mother declares that poor boy is not "one of us." This is a thorn in Rebecca's side. This was a GREAT story! I loved how Joe took this Independent girl under his wing. He longed to protect her but hat to do it carefully. Rebecca's family DID get on my nerves. I'm afraid if they had been my family, I would have ordered them out of my life, but Rebecca was calm and patient with them. I loved how Joe handled Rebecca's sister as well... This author writes of Canada. I'm sure it's more beautiful then she writes...Her books make me long to go there and see what it's really like. She speaks of maternity leave, and when I was reading it I started thinking that Rebecca wouldn't have the job for too long, but then I remembered that in Canada, it's 6 MONTHS... Oh, and I LOVED the look on the secretary and Receptionist's faces when Joe walked in with a bandana around his head...I couldn't stop laughing over that image! But it didn't matter...it was for a GREAT cause! |
