Product Description

This White Translucent Studio Umbrella is perfect for your setup and would be a great addition to your studio. This umbrella works well to diffuse the light from any flash, creating a soft even light for your subject. The lack of a black backing gives this umbrella the ability to flash through the umbrella if needed to simulate the effects of a Softbox.

This umbrella is light weight and portable which makes it perfect for location shots. The size of the umbrella works great for head shots and other small to medium sized photographs.

Specifications:

  • 33” wide when open
  • 23” long when closed

**Please note, the stand and reflector are not included with this listing.

Directions:

  1. Place the umbrella stand upright by popping out the tripod legs. Screw the legs into place with the turning knob to secure it on the ground. Always set up the stand on a flat surface.
  2. Fit the umbrella holder on top of the stand. The holder has a hot shoe on top to hold the camera or flash and a circular hole on bottom. Insert the brass bushing on top of the stand into the umbrella holder. Tighten the screw to secure the holder in place.
  3. Slide the flash into the hot shoe, and tighten the thumb screw to hold it in place. If you are working with a flash trigger, twist it onto the bottom of the flash, and fit the whole flash unit into the hot shoe.
  4. Pop out the umbrella, and slide the rod into the cylindrical hole located on in the middle of the holder, below the hot shoe. The hole is angled slightly. Insert the rod so that it is lower than the umbrella. Tighten the screw on the side to hold it into place.
  5. Adjust the angle of the flash so it points into the center of the umbrella. Turn the knob located above the hot shoe to angle the flash. Tighten the screw when it is in place.

I had purchased this exact item before and was VERY pleased with it. HOWEVER they have since changed vendors. previosly everything in them was fabric or metal, with the new vendor major functional components are cheesy plastic. and they now have the cowboy studios logo emblazened on them. the logo would be fine if the were used exclusivly as a bounce reflector, however being a white umbrella they are also used as a shoot thru, hence the logo might as well be a dirty smudge in the way it would effect the light.

This is a very poorly made umbrella. It did the job but at the end of the day it had crimps and holes in the metal from simply being in the light stand. I threw it away after 12 hours work. Perhaps it is not meant heavy use. Not recommended.

Low cost, simple to use and does the job. These shoot-through umbrella's do a great job with my canon 580exII flashes and when used in tandem for a group reduce the harsh shadows and reflections that might be caused by unshielded flashes. Keep in mind that you will lose about a stop and half of lighting when using these and adjust accordingly. Great for the price!

Over all my feed back on the item is positive.

The umbrella I purchased is as described in item overview. It is not a high quality item but is great for occasional use by non-professionals. One can not beat the price. Even professionals would find the umbrella useful with gentle use and care. The item is reasonable quality for the low price.

In conversation with the seller I found the seller to be helpful and considerate concerning an issue I had with shipping. Seller made an offer to me exceeding my expectation so my review of the seller is top notch.

I spent a significant amount of time reading reviews and at first, I purchased a Westcott umbrella. I figured you get what you pay for .. right? Well that is not always true. Sometimes a lower price is just a good deal. This umbrella is sturdy and very durable. I've only done some practice shots, but it is of much better quality than other umbrellas I've used. Definitely going to buy more. Umbrellas are not made to last a lifetime, but I think this one will last for a good amount of time and for this price, you can purchase additional for backup.

The umbrella work fine, the only thing is that is made of a bad quality metal pieces that bend very easy.

The quality isn't the best, but they're not bad for the money. The plastic tab that is on the back end of the tube (the end where you'd hold an umbrella) fell off right away, but beyond that- good value for the price.

Surely you don't buy $5 umbrellas to last a lifetime. I use this with my 285HVs and they work great. Don't man handle them and they won't break, sort of like any other umbrella. Not much else here. They didn't catch fire when I opened them so there is that. If there is something you want to know comment.

Update: Umbrellas are still working strong. I added a product image of a self portrait of myself to get an idea of their capability. No temperature shift seen. The temperature of the lights is the temperature the umbrellas transmit.

Update II (2-10-12): I broke one of the arms of the umbrella. I was half expecting this to happen. It wasn't from regular use but rather bending it when it came in contact with a lightstand I was collapsing. I repaired the arm by sticking a kebab skewer in the arm and lacing it to the arm as a sort of brace. It works well and I didn't have to buy a new one. Still recommended for the price.
