Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The CowboyStudio Photography/Video Portrait Umbrella Continuous Triple Lighting Kit provides 675 Watts of continuous lighting and it is a very good start for beginners. Entire kit sets up in minutes, and is very easy to operate.

The daylight balanced compact fluorescent bulbs are ideally suited for digital photography and the daylight color eliminates the need for color correction. They also have very low heat so they don't get hot like the more common photo bulb choices.

One of the main questions are customers ask us is “what is the difference between continuous and strobe lighting?” Continuous lighting uses a constant light source to light your subject, meaning that your lights will stay on during the entirety of your photo shoot. Continuous lighting is recommended for beginners. Strobe lighting uses a flash of light at the moment your camera shutter opens to illuminate your subject.

Light Socket: The adapter swivels in all directions so you, or your stand, don’t have to get the light where you need it even with difficult angles. Max holds 105 Watt light bulbs.

Soft Umbrella: Works well to diffuse the light from any flash creating a soft even light for your subject. Light-weight and easy set up.

Product Description

This kit provides 675 watts of continuous lighting and is a very good starting point for beginners. The entire kit sets up in minutes, is easy to operate, and is professional.

The W803 light stand is perfect for the studio photographer. Made from strong aluminum alloy, it can be used with reflectors, boom stands, strobe flash lights, and backgrounds.

The 801 light stand is compact in size and easy to use in both studio and table top photography.

Compact fluorescent light bulbs use up to 75% less energy and last up to 10 times longer than standard light bulbs. The total cost of ownership of a compact fluorescent lightbulb is typically substantially less than a standard light bulb that produces the same amount of light. Primary applications for compact fluorescent light bulbs include retail, hospitals, warehouses, workshops, churches, arena, schools, television, photography, and garages. 5000k daylight compact fluorescent standard spiral bulbs are an excellent choice for digital camera photography. They generate a close match to natural daylight and a crisper view of the items being illuminated.

This translucent umbrella is a great addition to your studio setup. This umbrella works well to diffuse the light from any flash, creating a soft even light for your subject. The lack of a black backing gives this umbrella the ability to flash through the umbrella if needed and simulate the effects of a soft box. Portability is a plus for location shots. This size is good for head shots and small to medium sized products.

I bought this kit mostly for the stands- which are super lightweight and sturdy. The lights themselves are just heavy plastic sockets and CFL bulbs- nothing particularly special. Umbrellas seem to be mid-range. It also came with a padded case. Again, in my mind this is all just bonus stuff. I'll likely use them as fill for quick personal shoots that don't requite a ton of light, as setting this up is super-fast.

This isn't the kind of kit you'd want to bring into a situation where someone knows what professional equipment looks like. But in a pinch, on your own time and in those situations where no one really cares, light is light. And this will do.

These will likely pay for themselves upon first use. Anyone who buys lighting equipment at this price and complains about quality should probably adjust their expectations. These are a good deal- especially for someone who isn't worried about being judged for their equipment.

I am new to building a small portrait studio room for building a portfolio. In my opinion, you'd probably have to spend a lot more money to get much better in quality. The stands/hardware are great, and the sockets seem fairly heavy and well made. The umbrellas do seem a little chintzy (is that a word?), but for the price it does seem great. I had only two lights on, and I was able to take pictures with the room light off (evening w no sunlight coming in) at 4.0/5.6 at 1/60-1/200. This is at 100 ISO, and w/o a flash. If I had all lights on, and 2.8 (which I will test this weekend), I think lighting would be sufficient. Seems like a really good buy if you're a non pro on a budget.

I was skeptical about ordering such inexpensive lights. I can't see lighting a whole set with these, but if you just need to fill in, these should work perfectly. A good product for a great price. Tip: The bulb housing is delicate so don't screw your bulbs in too tightly.

I'm really an absolute beginner. I've gotten some really great shots with these. I'm very excited that I'll always have these now. Easy to set up, and fun and easy to play around with. Gives off a really great soft WHITE light. I'll need to experiment with different bulbs and backdrops next.

I got these in a very timely fashion, and of course tested everything to make sure it worked. It was a great starter set, I do have to agree that the umbrellas appear to be cheap, but still everything else is very lightweight, easy to assemble, and use. I would buy this again. It is a drastic improvement to your photos.

if you are looking for a cheap three point studio lighting set up that you could eventually build up off of in the future this is a great deal. i would recommend getting a 85w CFL day light balanced bulbs. other than that everything is pretty solid for an inexpensive lighting kit.

i plan on in the future buying some of Cowboystudio's 5 CFL light head kits with the soft boxes. when i get this im going to to do two with 85W bulbs (one for my key and one for fill, since you are able to control what light are on. the other light im going to buy a full size light stand with boom attachment along with the same lighting fixture for a hair light but use most likely 45w cfl daylight bulbs.)

All in all i would recommend this lighting kit to the photographer of film maker that is on a tight budget but needs good lighting that they could end up building on as they build their production

I wanted a cheap lighting package that worked and that's what I received when I made this purchase. I would recommend for beginners that need a cheap alternative to lighting.

Properly utilizing light is so important. Having the right tools is also important. I use this for the filming of my local cable TV show on Real Estate and my You Tube presentations as a Realtor.
I also use this with my CowboyStudio 3300 Watt Photo Studio Lighting Softbox Video Light Kit...
