Book Description

Life on the Front Range of Colorado is never dull, especially with a spunky vet and a really hot cowboy in the mix.

Samantha Kendrick is a large animal vet in her small hometown of Fairview, and happy tending to her clients during the day and reading sizzling romance novels at night. Until Cheyenne Wells comes back into her life.

Samantha and Cheyenne have known each other since first grade, but it’s been a tenuous relationship that started when he yanked her ponytail and she punched him in the nose. Now Cheyenne is the head trainer and manager of the largest horse ranch in the west, and Samantha is called out to treat their prize stallion.

Their reunion ignites sparks of passion neither one is expecting. Though Sam resists at first, Cheyenne’s Native American magnetism draws her into his life, with some help from her mom and fate. Before she knows it Sam is drawn into a spidery web of evil. Together, Sam and Cheyenne must work to solve the mystery before it turns deadly.

It couldn’t get any worse for Sam, who up until then only pondered mysteries like, “Do cowboys really go commando?”

Humor, suspense, and a little romance make this book a must read for anyone who enjoys tales of intrigue and plot twists to the bitter end!

1.0 out of 5 stars My head hurts October 29, 2012
By rlkbwp
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Okay I read A LOT of books and this one is by far one of the worst I have ever read.

This book sounded good when I read the description but actually reading the "book" made my head hurt. It started off good and then it was like the writer had ADD. One minute the main character was cussing and the next she was saying really juvenile things like snot and girlie-man. For example, the following is from when she is fighting a guy after he attacks her and shoots her dog.

"Take that, you stupid sonofabitch!" Sam screamed at him. "You shot my dog and now you're going to pay, you, you girlie-man!"

Too many people in the story that are not really relevant. Then the writer throws in another man named Luke towards the end, just to take up pages? I don't know. This book had potential to be good but it just wasn't what it could have been.

I don't know why I finished it, maybe I was hoping for it to get better and now my head just hurts.

Good thing it was free. I will most definitely NOT be reading anything from this author again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Immature and Filled with Foul Language October 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
When I first started reading, I hoped the story would get better. It didn't; it got worse. Samantha and Isabella, Sam's best friend, sounded immature and slutty, with statements like, "Omigod! You've got the hots for Cheyenne Wells" and "Damn right I'm pissed. Who said he could grow up to be an Aztec God?" There was definitely an overuse of "sh*t." All this bad language didn't just happen in the dialogue but also in the narrative. The book is filled with it. In addition to being loaded with profanity, the characters do a lot of drinking and clichés are overused. Sam seems very self-centered and doesn't seem to have the education it would take for a veterinarian. There were also some facts and happenings in the story I questioned. Would one puppy's rabies shot be enough to protect an adult? Sam slathers her tamales with green chili [sic], but it didn't say anything about her unwrapping them first. Samonella is a bacteria and not a virus. There were missing commas and characters who had no purpose in the story. Even the ending was a let down. It ends so that the reader knows who has ended up with Sam, but the story just stops there. If you are a romantic, you will have to use your imagination if there's to be a commitment or what's to happen beyond the let's-get-together. I feel I wasted my time on this one. It was too trashy for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars sweet romantic suspense October 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was an Amazon freebie I picked up because I was in the mood for a cowboy quickie. Turns out this is a sweet romantic suspense story by new author Carolyn Anderson Jones. I enjoyed everything about this story except the title. I was expecting something completely different. Blame it on Lorelei James. What I did get was an interesting group of characters, a mystery and some sweet romance. I encourage you to give this a try. I will be looking for more by this author.

Samantha Kendrick is a large animal vet in a small town in Colorado. Cheyenne Wells is a horse trainer for the biggest spread in the area. Sam & Cheyenne have been fussin' and feudin' at each other since he pulled her ponytail in the first grade and she punched him back. Now years later Sam has to help him find out who has been poisoning the horses in his care and try to figure out what to do with the attraction that has grown between them. After all this time, whoda thunk.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Writer September 9, 2012
By Moma
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I love new writers! I am always pleased to encourage new writing talent. Cowgirl Up is a great mystery novel while also learning about horses! Even you have always wanted a horse and who dose'nt want one as a child growing up. It has enough spicey romance and mystery to keep the page turning until the very end. It's a real good read!!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful! November 1, 2012
By SGCmom
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am usually very forgiving when it comes to free kindle books, but this book was a waste. The only reason I even finished it was because it was almost funny to see how much worse it got chapter after chapter. The entire story was unrealistic from every angle. On top of the grammer mistakes, poor writing, and lack of actual plot development, it was packed full of obvious mistakes about the story line. Anyone with even limited science education or knowledge of horses / farms would easily catch mistake after mistake, such as saying that calves were "foaled" (when calves are born its called calving, horses are foaled), and that Salmonella is a virus (it's a bacteria).

5.0 out of 5 stars Awsome June 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I haven't read a book this good that held my attention like "Cowgirl Up" in a very long time. The content kept you into what was happening and wanting to know more. Kept you wondering right to the end. Loved the romance between Sam and Cheyenne. I think a sequel would be great. I'm a Texan and alot of the book hit close to home. Great job!

More About the Author

I love flitting between "country" and "chic", or as chic as I'm going to get. Growing up on the Denver/Front Range gave me a lot of country and chic to flit around in. I think it's the best place in the world to live. We have wide-open spaces & cramped downtown high-rises, mountains & plains, lofts & ranches, bistros & barbecues, symphonies & rodeos. Plus, the best outdoor playground any man or woman could ever want.

I flitted between country and chic in my first two books. My first book, Cowgirl Up! is about all things country - horses, dogs, trail rides, cowboys, chaps, boots, and vets. My second book, Scared Hitless is about all things chic - trendy women, vacation homes, mountain resorts, boutiques, boating, and Lemon Drop Martinis. These books embrace the best of my two worlds.

Included in my worlds are my family, friends and pets. I live in Broomfield and I have a gorgeous view of the Rocky Mountain Range and the Flatirons above Boulder. I see my old high school classmates and horse pals on a regular basis, and my best friends, kids and grandkids live within a few miles of my house. My youngest son, who was born with Down syndrome, lives with me, and presently my pet population has decreased to one Golden Retriever.

I'm a free spirit; a "glass-is-half-full" kinda gal, and forever a hippie at heart. My favorite skirt is my Mudmee wraparound, and I have my old love beads and Lennon sunglasses in my cedar chest. Along with my cashmere gloves, cloche hat, Calvin Klein handbag, old quilt, Parelli horse halter, and a hand-made hackamore bit from my grandfather. See what I mean? I will always be a woman who flitters between country and chic - a Colorado native and proud of it!
