5.0 out of 5 stars Love Them Madly
This beautiful & astonishing book is an astonishing look at America's horse latitudes & its women, the best out west. Even better than the women of Cody's Wild West and the 101 are rodeo riders like Tillie Baldwin, a Viking princess with the heart of a Viking warrior in boots & chaps. The photo of Baldwin's Roman Ride at the Stampede in 1913 is worth every dollar & dime...

2.0 out of 5 stars Some good pictures, mostly a let down
This large picture book had some interesting photos of true cowgirls, but mostly it was just old 1950's artists' reditions. Not really what you might hope for. Like the cover? That is pretty much the entire book. Really no inforamtion about true American cowgirls, just some over used pictures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cowgirls: Women of the Wild West, December 8, 2007
This review is from: Cowgirls: Women of the Wild West (Hardcover)
What a wonderful book! The old pictures are beautifully reproduced. In fact, they so remind me of my Grandmother who loved Frontier Days in the 40s in my home town. She loved horses, cowboys & cowgirls. What a fun look into our colorful past and some wild women who lived on the edge!

This review is from: Cowgirls: Women of the Wild West (Hardcover)
I was very pleased with the content of this book, (since I bought it blindly!). Some great pictures and historical stories of some of the women that shaped "the old west". Great for anyone who loves cowgirls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cowgirls: Women of the Wild West, January 13, 2007
This review is from: Cowgirls: Women of the Wild West (Hardcover)
This is a beautiful book. It is also very interesting giving new insight into the western riding and rodeo work of women over the last hundred or more years. The photographs and illustrations are very beautiful, not only of the riders and their horses but also of their tack and their clothes. The art in creating the patterns and designs that embelish the clothes and riding gear makes the book a visual delight while the text makes for really interesting reading. This is a first class gift for anyone who loves horses, in particular.

This book is the best ever compilation on the subject of women in the old west, real working cowgirls, show girls, hollywood cowgirls, etc. fabulous pictures and stories... this IS the best reference book on this subject currently available...

my only complaint would be of a personal nature, and that is I wish it had more on the bad girls of the wild west era... they only elaborated on three, Calamity Jane, Belle Star, and Pearl Hart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Women's History As I Haven't Known It., February 21, 2002

This review is from: Cowgirls: Women of the Wild West (Hardcover)
Full of great pictures and stories of rebel girls and women who wanted to go where their interests and talents took them. Brave and daring with remarkable athletic skills these "gals" were not only pioneer athletes, but genuine living liberated women.
Wish this was taught in the public school system.
