Book Description

September 21, 2000
Two Cowtown Vice Officers take along a local television news personality with them when they raid an illegal house of prostitution. Things start to happen after the raid, which of course made the 6:00 o'clock news, turns out to have been an FBI run operation. Political corruption, murder, cover-up and all the goodies connected with government gone bad are covered. Interesting side lights of book are the Det. Michael Genovese's adjustment from that of an undercover police officer to a private detective and the legal maneuvering with his boss ,attorney Connie Clark, to bring justice to Cowtown.

About the Author

Jewel thief, motorcycle gang member and President Reagan's bodyguard. These are some of the jobs Jim Silvania has encountered throughout his 32 years of investigative experience. Before working as Chief Investigator for the law firm of Porter, Wright, Morris & Arthur for the last 15 years, Jim worked with the Columbus Police Department for 17 years, 13 of tem as a detective in the Intelligence Bureau investigating organized crime throughout Ohio. Along with his police department experience, he was an assistant professor at Columbus State Community College where he taught law enforcement for 14 years.

While working for the Columbus Police Department Jim experienced many dangerous and exciting assignments. One of his most memorable was when he was Ronald Reagan's bodyguard in 1984 when Reagan was campaigning in Ohio for President. He was also the bodyguard for Israel's Premier Defense Minister in the late 70's while he was visiting Columbus.

Jim has also gone undercover to expose the national motorcycle gangs and thieves for various felonies. He "became" a fringe member of the Dayton, OH based "Outlaws" motorcycle gang, where he helped bring charges against them for murder, drug trafficking and receiving stolen property. He has also gone undercover with a group of jewel thieves to expose their operation.

For the past 15 years Jim has lead a less hectic lifestyle as Chief Investigator for the 270 attorney Columbus, Ohio based law firm of Porter, Wright, Morris & Arthur. He serves as the Executive Director of the Ohio Association of Security & Investigative Services and is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, as well as the National Association of Legal Investigators. He has a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from Xavier University, a BA ( cum laude ) in Law Enforcement from Park College and an Associate of Applied Science in Law Enforcement from the Columbus State Community College.

5.0 out of 5 stars COWTOWN, April 21, 2001

COWTOWN IS AN EXCELLENT BOOK THAT ALLOWS THE READER TO LOOK INTO BOTH THE PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL LIFE OF A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL. I FOUND IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO PUT THE BOOK DOWN AFTER I BEGAN READING IT. THE CURIOUSITY OF WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO DETECTIVE GENOVESE HOLDS THE READER'S INTEREST UNTIL THE FINAL PAGE. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO READING ANY FUTURE PUBLICATIONS BY MR. SILVANIA.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Cowtown has it all., December 21, 2000

Wow! Cowtown has it all. Corruption, sex, conspiracy, murder, pimps, prostitutes and police! Jim Silvania has included them all in his look at the seamy side of life through the eyes of a police officer turned private investigator. It's a story about a skilled police officer forced out of his profession who turns instead to the private sector to help protect the good citizens of Cowtown.

Silvania digs into his own similar experience to that of protagonist Michael Genovese, to paint pictures of corruption deep within the administration of a small midwestern town. Who knows where the similarities begin and end. And who cares. Silvania obviously knows his profession; both the private and the public side of his craft. He brings a story replete with action, wild charcters and even a car chase or two. No, all the action is not in the big cities. There's enough activity in little old Cowtown to keep Genovese busy on both sides of the legal fence. He's as good at tracking down the criminal as he is representing the personal injury plaintiff.

What a valient leap into his first novel! one waits curiously to see if Silvania/Genovese continues his fight for justice in novel #2.

3.0 out of 5 stars Is Cowtown really like this?, June 21, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Cowtown (Paperback)
Having been caught up in Cowtown political controversies myself, I found this book most interesting and informative. As the book shows, Cowtown can be a rough place when one gets caught up in the internal politics of the town. Anyone living in Cowtown or any state capital and involved in politics should read this book. As a contract employee and consultant for the Cowtown police department said to me, "if this kind of stuff really goes on in Cowtown, then we are in big trouble."
