From the Publisher

When Coyote drags a dead body onto the highway, it resumes a riddle that's been mystifying Native American tribes in the Southwest for centuries. The death itself looks like a random hit-and-run of a drifter, until Sheriff Cliff Lansing finds out it's Walter Tallmountain, a Native American who held controversial opinions on a recent proposal for land development. The crime's been committed on Lansing's home turf but no one wants him to investigate, including the FBI who claim jurisdiction over the case, forcing Lansing out.

Under the guise of a vacation, Lansing decides to conduct his own secret investigation. He goes fishing where Tallmountain had camped last. While he leaves his lady love, Dr. Marguerite Carrera, to fish, he goes to check out the campsite. Gunshots ring out and Marguerite is struck. He races her to his truck only to find his tires slashed. Marguerite falls into a coma and Lansing vows that nothing will keep him off this case now.

Meanwhile, his deputy, Gabe Hannah, finds an uncle he's never known who was an associate of Tallmountain's and may have had reasons for wanting him dead. Gabe must face up to the truth about his past before he can tackle the future - a future that may prove to be deadly to both Lansing and Gabe.

Coyote continues to stalk, arrousing confusion and dismay, as Lansing and Gabe race to solve a grand conspiracy that may span decades, even centuries.

If you're a fan of Tony Hillerman's works this book is a must. Wish Micah Hackler had many more books like this, I'd by and read them all.
