Coyote's Guide to Connecting with Nature is a fantastic tool for outdoor educators, teachers, parents or anyone who wants to explore techniques for reconnecting with the earth. Jon Young and Evan McGown -- in particular -- have studied with many ancient skills instructors and native peoples around the world. The hands-on, experiential exercises offered in Coyote's Guide intentionally reflect a fun-yet-serious "trickster" approach to learning: if students are thoroughly enjoying themselves immersed in 'the wild world' -- not dominated by fear but impassioned by curiosity -- they may not be aware of the depth of the lessons and growth they are receiving.

This is not intended to deceive, rather to access the ancient forms of teaching found in native societies but fundamentally missing in modern schools: namely FUN! Evan, Jon and Ellen have put immense effort into explaining to the educator how the techniques work, their implementation and the guidance to experiment and solution-build on the "fly."

You see, it is not only learning that should be fun, but teaching as well! Congratulations to the authors for delivering a powerhouse tool for teachers. Richard Louv's introduction is credit enough...but we should all be grateful to have folks like Jon Young reconnecting us to the wisdom of our ancestors.

This book should be a textbook for every classroom and on a book shelf in every home! It is full of methods, stories, games and ideas created to help connect people with nature. It works! I have designed and implemented successful nature programs for children and adults based on the principles and exercises in Coyote's Guide. I've made good use of the affiliate's guide in the back of the book as well. It is a pleasure to read and a joy to share with others. It's a great gift book!

Mr. Young has created a template for exposing people to the outdoors that allows them to understand their connection to the planet. This is a very hard book for me to review,as I can only ask you to read it, practice, and experence it.

As a Mom of two adventurous boys and an outdoor educator, I highly recommend this book!! It is filled with wonderful insight on connecting to what is all around us. The activites listed are so much fun and I have played many of them with four kids up to 50 kids. This book is for aanyone looking to reconnect or connect to nature on a deeper level. I have read and re-read this book and use it as a reference guide daily as I work and play with kids and find it a wonderful guide for my own journey outdoors. Remember what it was like as a kid, playing and running outside? Find that joy of discovery again, on your own or with kids, this book will help!!

This book is the most in depth nature connection book I have ever seen. I reccommend this book to everyone and everybody.

Its not often that a book comes along which contains so much wisdom is one volume. The history of the traditions shared in this book truly go back generations, yet are so fresh and accessible for us today. This is one of the few books on my "everyone must read" list. I can't recommend it enough.

Jon Young is an amazing educator, and in this book, he shows you how to tap into child passions to help guide children (and yourself) to a healthier connection with the natural world.
