Cozy Crochet Kit: Simple Instructions and Tools for 25 Terrific Crochet Projects

I bought the crochet kit from this publisher because I had the knitting one, which is fantastic. I was a beginner knitter, and the kit really helped and supplied me with fun projects that I still refer to today. Now that I am a more experienced knitter, I thought I'd try my hand at crochet. Certain that I would find the same clear and helpful instructions in this kit, I purchased it without any hesitations.

I have to agree with the other reviewers: the projects are adorable, you get a decent number of different-sized crochet hooks, some yarn...but the the instructions are just terrible. The explanations are confusing and the illustrations are unclear. After struggling with a strand of knotted yarn that was going nowhere, I just picked up a trustier knitting and crochet resource: the Teach Yourself Visually Knitting and Crocheting book, published by Visual, which has very clear illustrations that demystify some of simpler aspects of crochet. I plan to use this kit in the future, as my skills improve, so beginners beware: you will not learn how to crochet with the instructions provided in this kit! Crocheting should be relaxing and satisfying, but you will feel nothing but frustration and annoyance from trying to learn from this kit. Either buy another guide to supplement or take a class before buying this (as mentioned, the projects really are worthwhile- this publication's only saving grace).

When I first opened the booklet (it's really not a book) I didn't know how to crochet at all. Having read the whole book, I still don't know how to crochet. There needs to be diagrams on the project cards. There's no way to learn from these project even though it says beginners can use this kit. The photography is lovely and the projects are cute but I'm going to have to learn ro crochet somewhere else and then revisit this kit.

I really wanted to love this kit, because I have the Stitch-it Kit and Cardmaking Kit from Chronicle Books. It's a great publishing concept.
The design is wonderful and most of the patterns are pretty great, but the instruction pamphlet (it's hardly a book!) is woefully inadequate for the beginner to crochet.
The packaging is so cute that this would be a good gift... but supplemented with a better, more detailed introduction to crochet. I'd still recommend it, just don't expect that it will be all you need to get crocheting!

We got this as a "welcome home from camp" gift for my daughter. She LOVES it! She's only been crocheting for about a year, if that tells you the level of the book. It's not for someone who has only learned 2 stiches, but for someone who is ready to do a little more. It has EXCELLENT pictures and ideas. The plus is that it is very nicely packaged, which is why it is perfect for a gift.

Although not for the advanced crocheter, this kit includes all the basics for someone to get started and to try some new projects. I have been crocheting for years, my grandmother taught me and I liked the ease of the cards and some cute new projects to just whip up for gifts or fun. I also bought a few of these for some friends I am teaching to crochet. This with the encyclopedia of crochet will get anyone started, even those that don't have help. I think for someone young, or even in their 20's or 30's they would enjoy making most of these projects for sure.... other ages would depend on a persons style or ability to modifiy patterns to their own tastes.
Overall a great little kit that comes with everything you need to teach a friend to crochet and to have for traveling.

This is a fantastic kit. After reading a couple of the other reviews posted, I felt that I needed to give this kit its fair due. I picked up this book having no crochet abilities. The kit contains everything that a beginner needs. The little booklet is small enough to fit in your pocket and has all of the information you need to start crocheting right away. The pictures are helpful and all you need to do is think through it to get it quickly. The kit comes with the booklet, crochet hooks, some yarn, and project index cards. I read the whole booklet first and then completed the first project (yarn and crochet hooks included). I ran right to the local yarn store and bought supplies for one of the project cards, a beautiful shawl. The index cards are labeled with skill levels, have photos on the front that illustrate what the projects should look like, and contain detailed instructions inside. The booklet describes how to read crochet instructions, so the skills you learn are transferrable to other books as well. I have fallen in love with crochet and the beautiful colored yarns that are available. I plan to purchase The Cozy Crochet Kit for my friends who are interested in getting started. The only disappointment that I had was learning how much yarn costs! Happy crocheting!

The yarn they provide isn't enough to make a bookmark - a little disappointed with that.

I like the projects that are in this kit, but the crochets that the author provides are useless. Within an hour of strating one of the projects the crochet G, that I was using, broke in 3 pieces. My advice to you: buy your tools somewhere else before you attempt to do the projects.

I got this as a gift and love it. I always have to refer back to the instruction book. It is seriously the only thing that it clear enough to understand. The book that comes with it is priceless. The projects in it are nice, but to me the book is the star. I don't know what I would do without it. Please buy it!
