One Of The Best Vegan Cookbooks Out There,
By
This review is from: Cozy Inside: Delicious And Comforting Cruelty Free Recipes. (Paperback)
I dont know how I ended up on her website but within the first few minutes I bought the downloadable version of this book. It was the pictures that caught my attention( Chicken Fried Seitan, 3 Bean chill and sweet skillet bread, tofu fingers etc) and I had to have the book right away. So far every recipe has been incredibly good. I am not a big fan of tofu but her tofu omelette is soooo good it made me wanna smack my momma. Among my favorites are the Chicken fried Seitan, Southern Fried Tofu Fingers, Garlic Smashed Potatoes, Cheeseburger Macaroni, Spaghetti And Meetballs in Marinara Sauce just to name a few. This book has kinda of a downsouth feel to me. This is one of those few recipe books where just about EVERY recipe is delicious. It is worth it, try it you will like it!!!!

Simply Magnificent!,

I am not vegan or vegetarian so what I like most about this cookbook is that these are recipe's I am familiar with. Mac and cheeze baby! Everybody knows Mac and cheeze! Her recipe's make me feel comfortable trying something vegan because she took special care in translating non-vegan favorites into magnificent vegan delights! I feel pretty cool dabbling in the vegan world!! Everything I have made is so tasty and easy to make and the ingredients aren't over complicated. She really takes care to spell everything out and explains everything so well. Other vegan cook books I have read (but never bought) seemed to spend more time touting erroneous ingredients as if they wanted to seem...cooler than me, the beginner vegan. It's rather daunting. Joni keeps it real, keeps it easy and keeps it TASTY!!! I hear she's writing a cookbook for 101 burgers next? OMG, can't wait!

Death to SkiBumMER,

I don't know about you all, but I like to support independent authors that write cookbooks in their own homes with their own DELICIOUS recipes. I say it's time to get the sticks out of our butts and support people who are down to earth and know how to cook good home cooked meals that remind us of our youth. DO NOT acknowledge SkiBums ridiculous, rude, and stuck up review. I like to keep this simple phrase in mind at all costs, "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say it at all."I'm not even a vegan and I found this cookbook to be a necessity in my kitchen!!

Reliable, useful, and delicious!,

This review is from: Cozy Inside: Delicious And Comforting Cruelty Free Recipes. (Paperback)
I bought this book right after it was published and have used it extensively. Every recipe has come out great (which is often not the case with cookbooks), and been thoroughly enjoyed by friends and family. Most recently, we made the peanut butter/oatmeal/choc chip cookies, which were SO good! The focus on comfort foods and the straightforward nature of the recipes make this an especially good choice for people who are exploring vegetarian/vegan cooking. I am eagerly awaiting this author's next book!

"Holy sift that is amazing! You had me at apple, but I'll take the pear, the skillet, the upside down and the ginger and the spice cake, too." Isa Chandra-Moskowitz, Author, "Vegan with a Vengeance""Damn, I'm picky but I want 1 of each of your dinners and desserts. I've eaten at some of the top-rated (by Zagat's) gourmet places in NYC as both a vegan and lacto-ovo veg, and your photos look every bit as good as their presentations. Will you come cook for me?" Jeff, Texas Vegan "I just made your chunky marinara--it was SO good. Thanks for the recipe." Julie, Arizona Vegan "I am not vegetarian and every single one of these recipes is incredible! Honestly! It's perfect for those who are already vegetarian or for those who are curious and would like to try some vegetarian recipes!" Jennifer, Open minded omni from Huntington Beach, California "I made this the other night. ("Chicken" Fried Seitan)It was SOOO amazingly good!!! It's going to be a regular treat around here!" and "Oh my goodness. I should have tried these (Maple Corn Fritters) straight away! These were fantastic! Probably not the healthiest dinner ever imaginable but delicious all the same (and an amazing brunch or lunch or lazy breakfast). They were zero work, took only minutes and tasted like they'd taken a whole lot longer." http://www.vegetationramblings.blogspot.com/

YUCK! Author thinks Four Letter Words are the bomb!,

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!At five years old, I would undoubtedly have found it cute to name dishes after bodily functions. As an adult, I find it decidedly unappetizing and offensive. Moreover, the recipes don't taste any better than their crude names. Although I'm considered an outstanding cook and people always beg for my recipes, everything I tried from here was at best mediocre. There are far superior vegetarian and vegan cookbooks available ... Isa Chandra Moskowitz's tomes make vegan food appealing to everyone, both Dreena Burton and Donna Klein have written outstanding books, Bryanna Clark Grogan and Bobbie Hinman have written fantstic low fat/low calorie books, etc. -- all with far superior vegan recipes than this one, no crude language, and MUCH, MUCH more for your money. This is a skinny little black and white book, which includes many hideous pages solely comprised of fuzzy black and white photographs. It looks as though it were someone's first attempt at printing and binding a book from one's own computer. There are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many outstanding vegan and vegetarian cookbooks available now. Don't waste your money on this overpriced loser. Also, check the Amazon raves carefully -- one is from the author, herself. IMHO, independent vegetarians are buying and using the many exceptional vegetarian/vegan cookbooks, most of which are available right here on Amazon. |
