Book Description

August 31, 2006
Sex, violence, and drugs reign supreme in this engrossing depiction of an urban underworld. Lorraine has it all: a devoted husband, a comfortable home, a secure job, and a hot body. When she and her coworker Allison go out to lunch one day, they bump into Lorraine’s cousin, Dirty Don, and his friend, Black Nasty. Allison surprises everyone when she offers to sell them her stash of crack. When drug kingpin Andre finds out, he strikes a deal with Allison’s drug-dealing husband, Jeremy. Lorraine starts an affair with Andre against her better judgment but her husband Rainbow smells something fishy. Will Rainbow discover Lorraine’s secret? Meanwhile, JoMo, also known as Bill Greene, an undercover cop, is working hard to get the information he needs to put Andre and Jeremy behind bars and restore order to the streets again. As always, Jackson paints an unforgettable picture of the mean streets and lost souls of the inner city in his distinctive style.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Renay Jackson brings the grit, glory, and human essence of the Oakland underworld to you like no one else. The sun, the dope, the guns, the blood, and the love are all revealed..."
—Adisa Banjoko, author of Lyrical Swords: Hip Hop and Politics in the Mix

"Like Donald Goines and Iceberg Slim, Jackson is at the forefront of a new kind of literature."
—Robert Greer, best-selling author of the CJ Floyd Mysteries and Heat Shock

About the Author

Renay Jackson, long-time custodian for the Oakland Police Department, discovered his talent for writing while helping his daughter with a writing assignment for school. In the beginning, Jackson's only true believer was himself. Five books later, he has thousands of fans and plenty of plots in his head for new novels. Jackson's books fall into the hip-hop genre, also called "ghetto lit" and "urban lit". They are full of sex, violence, and drugs. Jackson's readership is mostly African American, but he feels that his books have a multi-ethnic appeal. It's just a matter of reaching out to other groups and getting name recognition outside of his regular circles of readers. Jackson says he "tells it how it is," and his readers agree. Renay is the 2002 winner of the Chester Himes Award, the top prize at the annual Chester Himes Black Mystery Writers Conference.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Awesome Read!, January 1, 2007
This review is from: Crack City (Paperback)
This thriller is a must read! The author has an excellent ability to create suspense and then, hit you with a hard punchline! His characters were exremely antimated and were described in such a way, you thought were with each one. The book was full of various plots, which gracefully came together at the end.

The author crafted his story, so you never knew what would happen next and if you did think you were close to unraveling the plot, he proved you wrong! This added immense excitement to the book. It was these interactions that made this one a "page-turner." Once I started the book, I had a hard time putting it down.

Be sure to put this one on your "must-read" list!

Even though this wasnt part of the sega (Oakland Devil series) this book still had some players in it from the series. Rainbow & Lorraine has gone thru a lot, especially Rainbow. I hope this woman will be the lady of his dreams. Because Lorraine sure wasnt, boy how she went down fast. Just plain nasty. I really enjoyed this book. I thought Don, was gonna be the man, but he got dealt with as well. Im looking forward to Mr Renay's next book. I hope it will be coming out soon. I really enjoyed reading all of his books. Keep up the good work and keep the stories coming..

I have read all Ranay's titles and loved them all. His story telling brings every character to life. The picture he paints is so vivid, its as if I'm a first hand witness to an unfolding scene where the people involved are not aware that I am watching. I look forward to more reads from this author.
