Addicted...,
This review is from: Crack Head (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
In her debut novel, Crack Head, author Lisa Lennox takes the reader on a journey back in time, when Guess, Used, Damaged, and high top fades were in fashion and the country's inner cities were being devastated by a new, deadly drug called crack. Julacia "Laci" Johnson seems an unlikely candidate for the title "crackhead." She is a beautiful, intelligent, wealthy, college bound young lady, with morals, values, and a loving and supportive family. What Laci lacks is acceptance. Being biracial, Laci has never really felt like she fit in with any particular group. When a chance encounter brings her into the folds of the infamous girl group, SBB, Laci is thrilled at having a chance to belong to something. Little does she know, the group members are envious of her beauty and material things, and devise a plan that will have dire consequences-they introduce an unknowing Laci to the highly addictive drug, crack. Once she gets her first taste, Laci is instantly enthralled and quickly begins a downward spiral, not caring about anyone or anything other than obtaining her next high. The drama and fallouts that ensue because of Laci's addictions are far-reaching and ultimately deadly.
Lisa Lennox's debut definitely is a page-turner. The characters were well developed and the author painted a vivid picture of the horrors of addiction. I was impressed with how the novel showed that the drug epidemic is not just an inner city situation and how addiction is very much a psychological as well as a physiological disease. Although the story line and character developments were excellent, the overall flow of the novel was a bit choppy and the sequence of events became hazy towards the middle of the story. I also felt the author should have put more emphasis on Laci's addiction and her demise. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the novel and would recommend it to others; especially teenagers who are looking for acceptance. Reviewed by Latoya Carter-Qawiyy APOOO BookClub

Outstanding,

This book was great. The story was so realistic and it was easy to visualize the story. Although I have never experienced any type of drug, the detailed descriptions were so real. The story had me so upset when they set Laci up. I could not believe people could be so cruel. All of that vicious behavior by Laci's so called friends all came from jealousy. It was very sad when such a good girl, trying to grow up doing the right thing was tricked into a world that she had no control of. It was very upsetting that she was a virgin and by the end of the story she was considered a crack ho by many who had no idea of the real person she was. She could never experience that special first time because she was high out of her mind through all of her experiences. But the end settled some scores. It just goes to show you, when you do things to intentionally hurt others , it is destined to come back around. I think this book is also a good example to those who may be curious or contemplating experimenting with drugs. Say no to drugs! It's not worth it. Also never do anything that goes against your better judgment just to fit in with friends. As you can see in Laci's case, they were not her friends at all. I look forward to Lisa's next book.

This book was so good. I read it in two days.It shows how girls can be real trifling, and how your so-called friends can really be against you. Be careful cause your friends just might not be who you think they are. This books shows why envy is one of the 7 deadliest sins. Also how strong and bad jealousy is. THIS IS A MUST READ!!! EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS. ESPECIALLY TEENS. ESPECIALLY THE ONES LOOKING FOR ACCEPTANCE!!! 10 STARS!!! I wil be waiting for her next novel. Great debut album Lisa Lennox!!!

good plot poorly written,

I actually enjoyed the storyline, but some of it just seemed too unrealistic for words. The part where females can be so jealous they unmercifully set up one another for disaster, i completely agreed with. However the author pretty much let them off with a slap on the hand, with the exception of the one chick who originally dated the big name dope dealer. Now the part where the dope dealer, Dink, actively pursues a crackhead, aka Laci, for a girl friend just equals bad business; especially when she's not useful in any capacity as a worker. It just seemed like the writer got tired towards the end and wanted to wrap it up, because some things were just thrown out there without any substance prior to back it, or even elaboration warming up to a given situation. And then the icing on the cake was editing. Some one should have contracted a professional editor. It was an easy read, but it could have been easier if words were spelled correctly or the proper homonym was used.

This was definitely a good book. It amazes me how jealous people can be of one another. Laci basically had it all but she still wanted to fit in with her peers, and although they took her in, only because they knew she had money, they were planning deceit from the beginning. Like the saying goes "Misery loves company". I dont wanna give away the book but its definitely a must reader.

hmmmmmm,
This review is from: Crack Head (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
I have to say this book started off good then ended up unbelievable. Like it was a ghetto fairytale or something. Like a dope dealer falling in love with a crackhead was a little funny. And there were people in the book where it was just like what was the point of them being there. This book sucked. If you want a good one based on the same get white lines. That's a good read
