Made up of 16 tracks the program takes listeners back through many of the group's 1990s hits including "Teen Angst (What the World Needs Now)" "Low" and "Get Off This." 4.0 out of 5 stars Good but frustrating., February 27, 2006
This review is from: Cracker: Get on With It - The Best of Cracker (DVD)
What is included on this dvd is nice for the Cracker fan, but what is lacking is frustrating. To begin, this dvd and the companion cd were released now years after Virgin booted Cracker and many other bands after not adequately promoting them. Now, this set was released without the band's input or support. Nonetheless, lets check it out...

The videos included here are good, though the video for Get Off This is absent, a live MTV performance stands in for it, which may actually be better, but you'd think they could've included both.

There is no material later than 1996's video "I Hate My Generation." Later singles, such as "Nothing To Believe In" or any material from later albums is not included.

The concert footage is good, it's all from one show in late '93. One would think that with all of this adding up to little more than an hour, Virgin could have scraped together some other tv performances, live takes and extras to make the package a bit more appealing.

Also, the notes on the dvd make it sound as if the band just quit or died after a few albums, though they do say that the band had 8 charting singles... where are those other singles here? not to be found.

Anyhow, the band IS still rocking, their new lp Greenland will be out later this spring, and a newly recorded "hits" collection entitled "Greatest Hits Redux" is also out.

All in all, I like what IS here, but I am equally disappointed at what's left out. As a picture of Cracker between 1991 and 1994 it's not even complete, and as a picture of the band's career as a whole (as the title would suggest) it is severely lacking.

2.0 out of 5 stars Perfect example of how boring and mundane Cracker really were, March 6, 2006
This review is from: Cracker: Get on With It - The Best of Cracker (DVD)
The Good

Two videos for "Teen Angst" are featured on this release. The first is an unreleased acoustic version, while the second is the original. A live performance video from MTV's 120 Minutes for "Get Off This" follows. Two versions for Cracker's most notable song "Low" are included as well. "Euro-Trash Girl" and "I Hate my Generation" are the other two videos. After Cracker's videos play out, you are treated to a live performance in it's entirety that was recorded in 1993 at Denver's Ogden Theatre.

The Bad

To call this DVD a `best of' is a real stretch. What you're really getting is a nine song live show and few videos. What I can't fathom the most is...is there really a demand for this?! Most people will recognize three songs at best. When alternative/grunge broke in the early nineties there were innovators that lead the way like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Soundgarden. There were also a bunch of bands who jumped on the bandwagon, but weren't equally a good. Cracker is one of those bands.

The Verdict

It doesn't matter whether you grab the CD or the DVD, Get On With It: The Best of Cracker is a perfect example of how boring and mundane Cracker really were.
