3.0 out of 5 stars Concise summary, but poor sample test questions., May 9, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Cracking the AP Environmental Science Exam, 2006-2007 Edition (College Test Preparation) (Paperback)
This review book offers a good summary of the entire AP Environmental Science course. This is perfect for last-minute crammers like me! It seems pretty thick, but actually, this book only contains 7 chapters of review (and one chapter of the lab review), with each chapter averaging about 10 pages long. I read through practically the whole thing today! It's very easy and quick to read through.

That said, the practice multiple choice questions at the end of each chapter are really pointless. Most of the info being asked isn't even covered in the chapters. So how are you supposed to know the answers??? It makes me wonder if the real exam questions are going to be all that specific, and none of the specifics were covered in the review book. Also, the explanations to the multiple choice are useless (they basically just restate the answer). The essay topics at the end of each chapter are very specific, a lot more specific than essay topics from the real previous AP exams. It seems pretty irrevelent to the AP exam. The sample essay responses are poorly written and offer little explanantion of the ideas they point out. In addition, there are many grammatical errors that get very annoying (and sometimes confusing).

Basically, the summary is brief and clear, but the sample questions really suck. I still think this is worth the time, and a LOT better than not studying at all. But here is one of the silly sample questions asked: "Exposure to which of the following noises would cause the most damage to a person's hearing? A) A vacuum cleaner, B) A chain saw, C) A factory, D) A lawn mower." I just thought that was totally random and very funny. But enough procrastinating, and back to studying for me!
